Can mirena coil cause dryness?

Ever since getting the mirena coil I've noticed that my vagina is quite dry. When I've been aroused in the past I've had no problem with lubrication but now I am nowhere near as lubricated down there. I literally have to apply lube every few minutes during sex. I really don't want to get rid of my mirena as it is the only thing that has helped with my horrific periods. I finally don't have to take Iron supplements anymore. Can anyone advise?

Ovestin cream. The Gp can prescribe it.

Isn't this for menopause related dryness?

If your vagina is dry is likely it’s likely to be oestrogen deficiency related regardless of your age or whether you are menopausal or not. It’s a general low dose oestrogen cream that helps to plump up the vaginal walls and vulval tissue. You need to use it consistently for a good few weeks and then keep using it to see an improvement- it’s not an instant fix. Many women who have the coil or mini pill (both progesterone only) can find their hormones suddenly imbalanced.
