Disposing of out of date medicines

I know I can take these to the pharmacy for safe disposal.

But can I also pop them out of their blister packs (and recycle the packs) and just take a mixed up bag of old pills to the pharmacy? I feel guilty about the blister packs going to landfill!

In my area the blister pack recycling project has basically stopped so that might be worth checking? Also you ask the pharmacy what to do?

I would return to the pharmacy. You aren't going to save the planet by recycling the packs at home. I think there have been schemes where unused packs are sent to other parts of the world (might be wrong here) .

My local pharmacy recycles them.
