Any bird watchers out there? Recommendations for pocket binoculars?

I presume it’s worth spending a bit to get a decent pair. Has anyone out there got any they particularly recommend?

Bump! I'm looking for the same - or possibly a monocular, instead? Any recommendations?

I started out with some like these.

They’re just over £100 and a good starter pair. Me and my son used these for a few years.

I also rate these. They give a strong, sharp image and are reasonably light.

There are some pretty sturdy little ones the RSPB does for children. If you are asking for a child. Otherwise, go to a rspb reserve and look at what they are selling - they often let you try them out. What suits one person does not suit another - are you looking for most powerful? Or are you looking for easy and comfortable to carry around? I travel by bus and sacrifice power for lightness, but there is a choice at every price range and you need to just go and see what is right for you. The seller will be able to advise.

check there is a shop before you head off to a reserve - they don't all have them

We had an upgrade a couple of years ago.

and would not be able to go back to our old ones now! But these are nearly £500 so more of an investment when you’re hooked.
I’d really like to get my son a spotter scope now but that will be another expensive gift to save up for.

Personally, I am looking for myself and something light to carry on hiking trips. Unfortunately the RSPB shop doesn't send to the EU!
