Which do you prefer Asda, Tesco or Sainsburys and why?

I'm looking at renewing my delivery pass. Which should I go with? All seem to be similar prices in passes at the moment

I use Ocado 3/4 times a month. Once a month I use Tesco for the stuff I like there that Ocado don't stock. Ocado costs me £8.99 a month for smart pass and the Tesco delivery is usually a fiver.

Tesco doesn't use bags unlike Ocado, which I find mildly annoying. I like their option to allow substitutions, which Ocado doesn't have.

Edited

Better for the environment not to use bags with home deliveries.

I prefer Sainsburys, but Morrisons are still doing free deliveries for NHS staff (since Covid) so they win

Sainsbury's are the only place where we can get the bread and teabags that we like, but we have been using Morrison's because we get free delivery (NHS). However I have just done my first Ocado shop. Very pleased I can order the red delicious apples from M&S, we haven't had it delivered yet so I still have to see how good it is.

We used to order from Sainsburys, and it was very useful to be able to indicate whether we would accept a substitution (not sure if they still do that?). I think Tesco have that option too, don't know about Asda. Morrison's dont, neither do Ocado.

They do still do the substitution thing.

Possibly not an issue for you but sainsburys is far and away the best for vegetarians/meat substitutes

To be honest Tescos is just as good in this area I find too!

sunshineandshowers40 · 03/03/2024 12:43

Used to use Tesco, switched to Sainsbury's a couple of years ago as Tesco failed to deliver a couple of times.

All subs in most supermarkets are computer generated.

Well Asda runs off Windows 95 then.

The pickers in supermarkets use a handheld device which suggest the sub. Pickers are also under time constraints so don't have time to wander about looking for the best sub.

MrsSlocombesCat · 03/03/2024 12:51

Sainsburys because I prefer their cream soda!

Interesting. It might be area dependent. Round here the veggie/vegan in store offering at Sainsbury’s are far wider and it follows in the online selection too. Stuff we buy all the time at Sainsbury’s just can’t be found at Tesco.

App13 · 03/03/2024 12:59

Sainsbury , do organic things cheaper than ocado

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/03/2024 13:01

i have tried all of those and in my area Sainsbury’s is the best by a mile. I tried Tesco twice and they cancelled on me the day the delivery was due both times. Asda just seem to have shocking delivery drivers who don’t give a shit - tried them twice too and they dumped everything on my door step without a care about whether anything might break. Sainsbos staff are awesome - really helpful. Their substitutes policy works well too.

CeeJay81 · 03/03/2024 13:06

Tesco but we don't have sainsbury's or ocado here. Asda and morrisons are rubbish for deliveries.

mindutopia · 03/03/2024 13:10

Tesco, because it’s always been the closest big supermarket to anywhere I’ve lived (unless I wanted to do a full weekly shop at Waitrose, which I don’t!). And I like that i know exactly what they have, so I don’t shop around, just buy my standard things every week.

FizzyStream · 03/03/2024 13:12

I alternate Morrisons and Ocado and have done for years. No complaints. Any time something has broken or leaked (not very often) it's refunded with no issue.
Also never had any bonkers substitutions.

shellyleppard · 03/03/2024 13:14

I use Morrisons. A mid week delivery pass (Tuesday to Thursday) cost £5 a month. Very rarely get food substitute and they always check when delivering. Never had any dodgy meat either and the fruit and veg is excellent quality

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/03/2024 13:16

I have used at various times

morrisons - rubbish
asda - rubbish

Decent -

tesco
sainsburys
waitrose
ocado

currently using Ocado as they still deliver in bags which as I’m limited mobility is far easier for me

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 03/03/2024 13:18

Sainsbury. Best for restricted diets.

Then Tesco I would say.

stopringingme · 03/03/2024 13:21

I now use waitrose or ocado both have been really good.

Morrisons - too many items out of stock or bad substitutions

Asda - too much out of stock.

Sainsburys- too short dates on things or out of date things delivered.

Tesco - have used quite often and no real problems.

Iceland - very good but you cannot add notes.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/03/2024 13:24

I was loyal to Sainsbury for decades. Our local store management changed I believe and service and tidyness in store fell off a cliff.

Tesco seems just as good.

Asda I find a hideous shopping experience - scruffy stores, unhelpful staff, not brilliant quality food.

I gave up on deliveries unless absolutely essential aens ago due to substitutions, them turning up late or not at all. I can whizz into tesco on my home from work on a Friday night and chose exactly what I want.

Waitrose and M&S for top up shopping and special occasion shopping. In this area, Waitrose's meat and fish are hard to beat.

idontlikealdi · 03/03/2024 13:27

Sainsbury's but not their mince.

Amybelle88 · 03/03/2024 13:52

Tesco.

Asda food quality, at least in my one, is truly awful.

Love sainsburys but find it can get expensive.

I'll also do the odd Iceland shop for some frozen bits and bobs maybe every other month. Delivery is very cheap.

Pineapplewaves · 03/03/2024 13:55

Runningwildish · 03/03/2024 10:22

Asda for me, they were the only supermarket I could get a delivery from when I was isolating during lockdown, so they've got my loyalty now, plus a can of Heinz beans is the same wherever it comes from.

Same for us, we used to shop at Tesco but they never had any delivery slots during lockdown so we switched to Asda. I find Asda is cheaper than Tesco and I prefer Asda's loyalty scheme to Tesco Clubcard. Rarely shop at Tesco for food now.

SunsetHopeLights · 03/03/2024 14:03

Coop nearest
Best yellow sticker reductions

RaraRachael · 03/03/2024 14:15

I don't have a Sainsbury's anywhere near me so can't comment on them. I also shop in store and far prefer Tesco to Asda. Our local Asda always seems to have half bare shelves whatever time you go and despite claiming to have lower prices I always come away spending more than I thought I would.
I use my Tesco clubcard and save between £3 and £9 every week, then get about £18 of vouchers every so oftern,

SpacePotato · 03/03/2024 14:20

I don't order food deliveries often but when I have to I've used my Amazon account to order from Amazon fresh (ocado type warehouse so stuff is definitely in stock) or morrisons through Amazon, where you can select no subs or what subs you will except.

Free fast delivery over £40. I could order now and get food delivered by tea time.
Came in very handy around covid.

Notinthemood12 · 03/03/2024 15:31

Have used Sainsburys, Ocado and Asda, now will only use Morrisons. Ocado a bit expensive, Asda ridiculously short dates and often late, Sainsburys were ok but then got a few short dates. Also no bags having to stand on doorstep with a stranger watching me deal with loose items. Morrisons have bags, long dates and always on time
