Which do you prefer Asda, Tesco or Sainsburys and why?

I'm looking at renewing my delivery pass. Which should I go with? All seem to be similar prices in passes at the moment

We have used Ocado for years, but I find myself using Sainsbury's more and more now, because Ocado have stopped stocking some products I like to buy weekly/fortnightly. I also use Tesco when going to a store because that is half the distance from home of Sainsbury's. But I do prefer Sainsbury's out of those you have suggested. Used Asda once and never again.

SwordToFlamethrower · 03/03/2024 11:31

Aldi all the way!

NotmySundaybest · 03/03/2024 11:36

Sainsbury's is looking a good choice!

I use Ocado 3/4 times a month. Once a month I use Tesco for the stuff I like there that Ocado don't stock. Ocado costs me £8.99 a month for smart pass and the Tesco delivery is usually a fiver.

Tesco doesn't use bags unlike Ocado, which I find mildly annoying. I like their option to allow substitutions, which Ocado doesn't have.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/03/2024 11:52

I don’t have deliveries. I use mostly Asda, since it’s fine for most things and the most convenient. I do have to go to M&S or Waitrose for a few things though - mostly strictly U.K.pork or gammon, not that we eat either very often. Asda only ever has EU factory farmed. Admittedly it’s cheaper, but I would never buy it.

I quite like the nearest Sainsbury’s, but it’s not as convenient.
I never go to Tesco - there isn’t a major one anywhere near enough.

Heartbreaktuna · 03/03/2024 11:55

I love sainsburys but would never use it for delivery because they removed all the fruit and veg use by dates, and so now all the veg is limp and doesn't last.

Cascais · 03/03/2024 11:57

Sainsburys

Totally agree with this. It's also a complete pain when you have last week's carrots and this week's carrots in the fridge and you just want a quick way to know which ones to use first.

Blackcats7 · 03/03/2024 12:07

Have tried them all and don’t use any now as all crap. Ocado is so much better. Hardly ever have substitutions, polite delivery drivers, bags, customer service in this country and they price promise so you get a voucher for money off next shop if they were more expensive than tesco etc.

Dotty2dot · 03/03/2024 12:10

I've always used Asda. Never had a problem.

piealhxiprshl · 03/03/2024 12:10

Avoid Asda, subs are awful, think they're computer generated.

Tesco is good, loads of choice, but Clubcard points make Tesco a less favourable choice overall since they reduced their worth.

Sainsbury's are our current favourite, have never had an issue, subs are few and sensible, Avios points are a perk for us. Never had issues with fresh fruit and veg.

piealhxiprshl · 03/03/2024 12:11

Oh and have used Ocado for a while, that was good for reliability, but less good for choice in supermarket brand, there are just some things I refuse to pay branded prices for and Ocado has quite a limited own brand range vs the other supermarkets. Also no loyalty point perks.

Dotty2dot · 03/03/2024 12:11

All subs in most supermarkets are computer generated.

Clearinguptheclutter · 03/03/2024 10:45

Possibly not an issue for you but sainsburys is far and away the best for vegetarians/meat substitutes

Im not a vegetarian but I agree with this ^
I also found Sainsbury’s a bit better if you cook yourself and your cooking is more complicated and I love their tea, biscuits, jams and meat range. However Tesco is cheaper for basic fruits and vegs.

mondaytosunday · 03/03/2024 12:17

Never used Asda. Sainsbury's are ok but quite a few substitutions or unavailable products, and I'll never forgive them for delivery of Christmas shop without bags (back when you could request them) and the guy refused to help carry the stuff up the stairs to my flat. I had no bags at all as just moved in.
Tesco is my usual. Except for six times in a row when they were late, but the drivers are usually friendly and always have a nice little chat about their day, subs uncommon.

Itwasfinetillitwasnt · 03/03/2024 12:19

I think it depends on location.
I tried morrisons, asda, tesco, sainsbury and ocado. I've stuck with tesco for probably 15 years because they have never missed a delivery, subs are usually fine. I very rarely get short date items. The drivers are lovely. I've had issues with the milk leaking but that is not to do with delivery and the drivers have always been good about it. I have the off peak saver (delivery after 3pm any day) which is really good value especially if you sign up for a year. I think you should try a few before you commit to a delivery saver.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 03/03/2024 12:23

I use Sainsburys and occasionally Waitrose. My deliveries tend to come from another localish store depending on time and day.

TammyJones · 03/03/2024 12:23

Stared using Tesco's for the kids while they were at uni 13 years ago
For myself been using Tesco about 9 months.
Absolutely brilliant
Good quality stuff
Reliable and dependable
So convenient and I save money because I'm not chucking random stuff in my trolly.

Fanniefarts · 03/03/2024 12:23

Sainsburys
rarely have missings
rarely have substitutes
saver delivery slots are often only £1
Necter priced items
Aldi price match
good quality
good range

Fanniefarts · 03/03/2024 12:26

Asda
I found the store they delivered from didn’t offer a big range.
too many missing/unavailable items
random substitutes

I agree with both posts as well.
I’ve got big Sainsbury’s near by and go in person, so it’s different but it’s pain in the arse with dates removed

SirenSays · 03/03/2024 12:34

My ocado order was cheaper than asda

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 03/03/2024 12:35

Sainsbury’s for me but Tescos come a very close second.

But sainsburys and Tesco’s are moreorless same with prices and offers don’t you find?

DM has found good bargains on free range and organic chicken there and her 4 pack Yeo valley Greek yoghurts she’s now swapped for Sainsbury’s own brand.

I prefer eg the Tesco finest soups (3 bean chilli) and as you say all round good quality products.

piealhxiprshl · 03/03/2024 12:39

All subs in most supermarkets are computer generated.

Well Asda runs off Windows 95 then.
