Day 2 of a huge muscle knot in my shoulder. The pain is in my neck, head, shoulder, arm and back. Everything is such a bloody struggle. I had to drive the dc to an eye exam yesterday and could barely turn my head to check right hand side. Speed bumps and hills were agony!

The worse part is I have a manual job so being out of action costs money. I'm also falling behind on all the chores/dog hasn't been walked/kids are climbing the walls. I have ibuprofen, a hot water bottle and have been trying to massage the knot out but worried I'm making it worse. Ideally, I'd like some sympathy and feel free to add your own aches and pains so we can commiserate together.

Can you get a child with a pointy elbow to gently lean into the knot while you lie face down on the floor?

Willmafrockfit · 03/03/2024 09:05

have you tried ice?

AnotherVice · 03/03/2024 09:11

Feminax ultra for the naproxen. You'll have to say it's for period pain. Only thing that helped my neck.

They have been discontinued a few years now

TiredArse · 03/03/2024 09:15

Volterol gel stuff may help. Hope it eases soon.

No, not tried ice yet. I may alternate between heat and ice to see if it makes a difference.

have googled gentle exercises to do?

Tintackedsea · 03/03/2024 09:17

Bob and Brad on YouTube. They are physiotherapists. Any pain I'm straight to them because they will have an exercise to help.

I actually have some naproxen from when I injured my back. I can't take them without omeprazole though 😔

I watched a video of theirs last night! I did the laying on my side while massaging but it's a monster of a knot. It's golf ball sized and rock hard.

Sounds very painful OP, could you try a hot bath? Could a sports massage help, I know they can be £40-£50 but discomfort must be unbearable, if it’s affordable it may be worth enquiring about one. I’m nearing 35 weeks pregnant and have DC1 to keep entertained all day, I can’t bend down with a sore back and to add salt to the wound it was raining last night and my cat shit on the floor next to the cat flap. Not a good start to my morning! Hope your pain goes soon OP.

Willmafrockfit · 03/03/2024 09:21

are you resting it op?

Bonbon21 · 03/03/2024 09:23

A really hot hot water bottle wrapped in a towel.. sit/lie on the tender spot as long as you can bear the heat and slowly start gentle movement as the muscle relaxes. Otherwise aim the shower head set as forceful/hot as possible before gentle movement...

owlsinthedaylight · 03/03/2024 09:23

Private online GP for a muscle relaxant.

Bonbon21 · 03/03/2024 09:27

The other method is a tennis ball which you roll across the muscle with pressure.. this is quite painful to start ...but any manipulation will be... good luck! I hope you get relief soon.

Foam roller!

I’ve had some nasty knots / back pain and thought “I’ll just try the foam roller while I wait for a physio appt” and honestly it helps so much more than I ever expect, sometimes fixes it.

Go up and down your whole back, with it between you and the floor (there will be a YouTube video).

MrsKarlUrban · 03/03/2024 09:32

A little spikey ball look on Amazon placed on the wall and back up to it right on the knot
It feels good! Omeprazole you can get emeprazole (sp) from chemists now which is less strength version but would put you on??

MrsKarlUrban · 03/03/2024 09:33

This is the spikey ball

That looks like a tumble dryer ball! Bet your kids have something similar!
I forgot you also need sympathy - it’s horrible, outsource everything you can, phone in dinner, it won’t kill them once in a while. Hope you feel better soon.
