Can you watch True Detective with Jodie Foster in it without watching earlier series ??

Oh are they not connected? What about the swirly sign. We watched Jodie Foster series it was great so thought we’d start with series 1 and we assumed they’d be connected, a bit disappointed now. Series 1 not as good as 4 in our opinion, hard to understand what they’re saying half the time and not a huge amount of detectoring going on.

Ohhhh I loved True Detective. I watched Season 1, got through Season 2 but couldn't get past the first episode of Season 3 because I just can't understand what they're saying. I don't know if it's indistinct speech, accents, poor sound recording but it's too much like hard work and it's ruining it for me. I've heard a lot of people say the same. I might give Season 4 a go to see if it's any better because you they're not so connected that you lose the thread if you miss a season.

I’ve watched all 4 and in 1,3 and 4 there are a few mentions of names or places that tie them together but super easy to miss and actually don’t lead you anywhere really. They all work as stand alone stories. I thought season 1 was the best followed by 3 then 4. Season 2 was my least favourite. Awesome series though and had me binge watching to find out what happened.
