School staff - who, or what, are you dressing up as for World Book Day?

If you are?

I need inspiration.

Nothing I have in the house is shouting at me to wear it, & I have stupid post-chemo hair that's doing my head in 🙄.

One of the girls at work suggested an Oompa-Loompa but I don't have anything handy to turn into an Oompa-Loompa. I've seen a book fairy on Pinterest but not sure I cba to add another crafty project at the mo...

(If you're not dressing up, I don't really need you to tell me that, unless you have something to suggest!).

Hi Lucysmam

what about a suffragette - you are pretty crafty so it would be easy
then the book would be something about Women Changing the World or a history text book

Ewoklady · 02/03/2024 19:48

I’m meant to add I have a Skelton bird mask from Halloween so I might go as the book Funny Bones (the pet one)

IcelandicBerry · 02/03/2024 19:49

I always dress up as Burglar Bill.

Black jeans, boots, black and white stripe top, tweed cap, mask and a big brown box with little holes in it.

The easiest one I have done in the past is Fern from Charlotte’s Web. Jeans, checked shirt and a pig teddy. Also had a spider from Halloween hanging from a pocket.

Whinge · 02/03/2024 19:52

A muggle (normal clothes)

Or wally (where's wally) Fake glasses and a red / white stripy t shirt.

Singleandproud · 02/03/2024 19:53

I'd go in brogues and a tea dress and be Miss Honey.

My mum was a Primary school teacher when I was growing up and I remember the year she wore a check shirt and dungarees and had me and my brother shove straw up the sleeves and legs as she was the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz. I cannot imagine the mess that left around the school or how itchy it must have been

BoattoBolivia · 02/03/2024 19:54

I've done Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs before- jeans, t-shirt and some Dino's in a bucket. Simples 😁

Mylobsterteapot · 02/03/2024 19:57

A golden ticket. Two Primark pillowcases in the appropriate colour, decorated with a fabric pen. Worn over blank jeans and a black top.

pastapestoparmesan · 02/03/2024 19:59

Kristy Thomas from The Babysitters Club always works for me.

autumnboys · 02/03/2024 19:59

I wore a green dress and decorated my window that looked out over the playground with a ‘here be dragons’ map and propped up lots of dragon related books at the window.

Lulu1919 · 02/03/2024 20:11

We have just read Holes in year 6
I bought an orange 'paper' overall and an orange base ball cap
Came to about £10

Billybagpuss · 02/03/2024 20:15

One of our teachers came as moaning myrtle school uniform and a toilet seat

Spendonsend · 02/03/2024 20:17

Cat in the hat - normal black and white clothes, make a stripey hat.

Ghostlight · 02/03/2024 20:24

Often a witch of some sort as I have the hat and a few black dresses, just change it up with accessories to be different witches
Tight bun and angry eyebrows- Miss Hardbroom from the worst witch
Long plait with a bow- room on the broom
A cape- Meg from meg and mog
Stripey tights- squashed one from the wizard of oz

lucysmam · 02/03/2024 20:37

Oh! @JollyJolene you are a genius. I still have my copy of Charlotte's Web somewhere (I think at the top of the stairs).

I remember trying to show it to the butcher, through his shop window, after my Mum bought it for me. I'd have been maybe 6 or seven I think. It was upside down & he was trying to show me to turn it the right way up by gesturing through the window 🙈. I eventually had to go in to show him.

We're doing the hungry caterpillar, so we're dressing as the food he ate!

Santasbigredbobblehat · 02/03/2024 21:01

Red Riding Hood. Just a red cape and a wicker basket.

JosieRay · 02/03/2024 21:02

I used to dress as Percy the Park Keeper…jeans, waist coat, cap, wellies and soft toy animals tucked into all my pockets.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 02/03/2024 21:21

We’re not dressing up this year but last year we did treasure island as a department, pirates is pretty easy to do if you’ve got a Breton top and can fashion an eye patch,

AdaColeman · 02/03/2024 21:21

Ordinary day clothes, jumper & skirt and a scarf perhaps, take a box of Turkish delight and give a piece out now and then....Susan or Lucy from The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe. I know that is bending the plot a bit, but the children will love you for giving away sweets.

On a similar note, cobble together a tattered ruined wedding dress from old lace curtains & sheets, give out small slices of fruit cake, Miss Havisham from Great Expectations.
