Cat allergy advice - returning/getting worse?

I've always had an allergy to cats but then it seemed to disappear although I was no longer around cats in the same capacity.

Then I met DH who had 2 cats. We moved in together and I didn't seem to have the same issues.

But now, nearly 11 years later and down to 1 cat, my allergy has come back with a vengeance. It's bloody miserable. I'm taking ant-histamines daily but I dont get full relief and by the time I need to take the next dose 24hrs later I'm in full blown allergy mode. I get hayfever badly too which is bad enough in the summer months but having this almost year round now makes me want to weep.

I was away with work for a few days during the week and it was bliss and I felt normal. Now I'm home again I'm back to misery.

Does anyone have advice for dealing with a cat allergy, any suggestions on how to lessen it? And why on earth has it come again and so severe?

How are you sure it's the cat and not hayfever?

My hayfever has got progressively worse, and the season has got longer...

Because I only have it when I'm in my own house and it's been happening all year so far.

DP has a cat allergy and we have 4 cats. He has to take his antihistamine every day of the year instead of just during hay fever season and we also have an air purifier running 24/7.

I’ve also used Petal Cleanse on the cats which I need to get back into the routine of doing. It was effective with his son around who is even more allergic to cats.

Can your husband brush the cat more so there’s less hair/less dander in the atmosphere?
