Did you ever get something stuck in your head that wasn't a song?

I think we're all familiar with the idea of getting a song stuck in your head, but is is just me that sometimes gets bits from shows stuck going around in the same way?!

The main one that comes to mind is the guy from the start of the undateables saying "I want to be someone's Christmas Present" And also maybe a bit more niche but Gina from Brooklyn 99 saying "Ewww Grackles?!"

So has anyone else ever had this or are you normal?

I do this a lot. I had the word sedition stuck in my head recently after a vivid dream about being part of a subversive political group in the 19th century. I kept "hearing" it said like it had been uttered by the prosecution lead at my dream trial. In a soft Edinburgh burr no less.

Normal? Probably not. Entertaining on a dull Tuesday? Definitely.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 01/03/2024 21:07

I do this all the time! I drive myself up the wall!

AhBiscuits · 01/03/2024 21:08

Yes I do this a lot. Sometime random phrases. I know my 8 year old does too as she'll keep saying it out loud and it drives me round the bend.

GreenMarigold · 01/03/2024 21:09

I get single words stuck in my head. Normally interesting long German ones or medical or scientific terminology. I’m definitely not normal 🤣

Perfume ads with bizarre statements tend to stick. Daisy, daisy, daisy......
Otherwise it's music and radio jingles.

Twoweeksandcounting · 01/03/2024 21:43

Can’t figure out why, but recently I have had times where I get the name Jacob Elordi randomly pop into my head, and I then find myself saying it over and over again in my mind! I must have heard it said on the radio or something, as he has been quite prominent recently, and I think there must be something about the way it sounds that appeals to me!

All the time.
I often wake up with some scene of TV show or movie stuck in my head and I have to figure out what it was and why it was stuck in my head.

It's a bit like when I'm trying to remember a word, you might say it's on the tip of my tongue, but instead of a word it's a film or TV series or a person or a character or something.

The other day I was going crackers trying to remember who someone was based on a dim memory of a man wearing a tiara, blowing in his fingers and then flying away...

After some hard thinking and googling I figured it out... It was Monkey from the TV Show Monkey.
The image I had was him calling his cloud. 😂

It’s called Echolalia and it’s enough to drive a person crazy.

I have it because of my CPTSD.

BingoMarieHeeler · 01/03/2024 21:56

Yep all the time recently, fucking infuriating!

EdithGrantham · 01/03/2024 21:56

I get this with names, Sam Allardyce was one that was in my head for ages.

AttaThat · 01/03/2024 21:57

Interesting, names are the big one for me! And random phrases, that I’ve heard, read, just made up.

fabio12 · 01/03/2024 21:57

Yes I get this and often find myself chanting some random lines from a play or advert or just a phrase that's popped in when doing dog walking in time to my steps. I often don't realise I'm doing it over and over and when I do I have to find a bit to reach where I will stop (such as, when I get to the end of this bit of path). It's weird as I thought everyone does it?

Bestdoanamechange · 01/03/2024 22:06

I get this with names too. Pallab Ghosh is a favourite that keeps popping up.

muddlingthrou · 02/03/2024 09:03

The oddest one I had was that I couldn't stop thinking about some ivy in a passageway near my house popping randomly into my head!
