Beth Rigby of Sky News says they've been reliably informed it's not going to be about a General Election, so what will it be?

I think the penny has finally dropped that he isn’t very popular, so he decided to make himself look even more stupid.

Yup!

JanewaysBun · 01/03/2024 18:05

So when people actually died trying to get to hospital in thr oil/environment protests that was ok (because the protestors were largely white!) But when Muslims decide to do it then....

Fwiw i think protests should not be allowed outside private residences. I used to live down the road from a deputy PM (in a flat vs his large house lol) and they would make the street unpassable/scary for my kids so i think confing to e.g. parliament square/away from the public is ok - but this should have been decided YEARS ago

Best quote, George Galloway,”who won an election me or Rishi Sunak?” Classic

I will be interested in a large poll on this speech which will happen , MN will not be a true representation of general feeling I think.

Oh god loves a trier.

Mate, they are toast!

Piggywaspushed · 01/03/2024 18:06

'General feeling' will not have sat through that speech.

The six o'clock news isn't even covering it.

RoseAndRose · 01/03/2024 18:01

I wonder who the target audience of that speech was?

Because I really can't see who it would appeal to.

It seems from this thread that Conservative Party HQ liked it? Not sure about anyone else

SomersetTart · 01/03/2024 18:08

"I say this to the police: We will back you when you take action"
There are now less police officers per capita than when the Tories came to power.

Sunak commits to acting to prevent people entering the country "who undermine this country".
They could have committed to this 14 years ago.

Did he just say that we can bomb other countries, those people can seek refuge here, but they aren't allowed to protest the bombing of their countries or they are getting sent back (in all the other waffle he waffled)

Pretty sure that was the gist.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 01/03/2024 18:09

I really don't understand posts say that he took a stand, and showed leadership. He didn't say anything particularly noteworthy, and more importantly didn't actually say he'd be doing anything beyond some vague comments. What will the actual impact of his speech be? I imagine zero.

CharSiu · 01/03/2024 18:10

Many people don’t get their news through the BBC, I do but many don’t. It will be headline news tomorrow. Many don’t want the full speech nor care. The educational attainment of the demo graph of MN is I would hazard way above the national average.

How many people here mix across a wide spectrum of people? most don’t. Birds of a feather flock together and all that.

BarelyLiterate · 01/03/2024 17:58

That was an good speech. Sunak is broadly correct about these issues, but he should have gone further and stated clearly that multiculturalism is fundamentally divisive and has failed. The current situation is proof of that.

One thing was very obviously missing, though. What is he actually going to do about ghettoisation in our communities and toxic & violent extremism on all sides?

I think you’re right about the failure of multiculturalism which has been largely interpreted as get rid and criticise anything British and adjust everything to tie into minority cultures. We need to be a lot more through in protecting British Culture. Most other countries manage that.

SameSameButDeliverance · 01/03/2024 18:10

The fucking hypocrisy of trying to position himself as The Unifier when he’s refused to call out Anderson and Braverman all week.

Jog on mate, you’re so transparent you give Mr Sellophane a run for his money.

Westfacing · 01/03/2024 17:53

He's so bloody patronising in his presentation - like he's addressing five-year olds

I know, it's the breathy, lispy, children's TV presenter voice isnt it🙄😣
I find him unpleasant to listen to.

SerendipityJane · 01/03/2024 18:12

Talk about a word salad.

What0nEarthIsThis · 01/03/2024 18:12

Do we even have any police now?

BasilBanana · 01/03/2024 18:12

He sounds identical to Will from the Inbetweeners - now I've realised that it's all I can hear

Simonjt · 01/03/2024 18:13

What0nEarthIsThis · 01/03/2024 18:12

Do we even have any police now?

Yes, but they’re likely busy stalking women

Alaina7 · 01/03/2024 18:13

In fairness if he’s got an actual speech impairment (?) that’s not really his fault.

I paid my teenager to do it 😂

RoseAndRose · 01/03/2024 18:01

I wonder who the target audience of that speech was?

Because I really can't see who it would appeal to.

The target audience was the many many poor white nationals and decent immigrants who see the shit show the country has become. Not the Londonistas but the people who they see as stupid and racist. You know - ordinary people. The ones that object to the systematic rape of underage poor white girls, the ones who can't walk through London on a Saturday Incase they look too Jewish, the ones who object to the 15 new Turkish barbers in town, but never a Turk or a barber in any of them. Oh and those who object to modern slaves both existing and doing their low level jobs, in nail bars, car washes, Uber driving and security work.

What0nEarthIsThis · 01/03/2024 18:17

Do you think he's really getting nervous about the level of discontent and protest in the country. I suppose that's kind of a good thing in a way. At least he's noticed.
