Beth Rigby of Sky News says they've been reliably informed it's not going to be about a General Election, so what will it be?

Why is it Khans London?

People who say Khan's London are telling us something about themselves without telling us.

Presumably when Boris Johnson and Ken Livingstone were mayor of London and similar problems existed it was also because they were muslim?

Containerhome · 02/03/2024 11:19

Well I can accept I can say on here. But many gave made sweeping generalisations that we are oppressed when many of us are telling them we are not all oppressed but that will be ignored by most. And yes culture does heavily dictate the way people practice religion. Not always the other way round

Indeed.

Facts are pesky things.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/26/fact-check-has-sadiq-khan-really-overseen-a-surge-in-london

According the Crime Survey for England and Wales, someone is actually less likely to be a victim of crime in London than they are across the country as a whole. In the capital, 14.9% of people experienced a crime either to their person or their household in the year ending September 2023, compared with 15.7% nationally.

The murder rate in London has also dropped in recent years. Early figures suggest 110 murders were recorded by the Metropolitan police in 2023 – broadly in line with 2022. That’s down from a peak of 153 in 2019, and is also lower than the 120 recorded in 2015 – Boris Johnson’s last full year as mayor.

Who would we say seems like the most oppressed female: Princess Kate Middleton, Princess Charlene of Monaco, Queen Mary of Denmark or Queen Rania of Jordan 🤔

An interesting question, to which the answer is not obvious.

I guess one could start with who could choose today to go to the shops to buy some milk and it would not be commented upon?

That's generally the way it works isn't it ? Someone makes an assertion, and it's up to them to back it up, not the reader to just accept it. Although too many do.

I did provide a source. If you don’t agree with it, you can provide an alternative one.

Otherwise you’re just expecting me to accept whatever you say.

I live in Tower Hamlets and the 'no-go area' shite that a Tory MP spouted last week is bollocks. As us a PPs similar claim that white ppl can't go out in London for fear of being thought Jewish(!) The idea that Sadiq has given the capital to 'Islamists' is another pile of steaming horse shit.

If you believe these conspiracies you need to check yourself. The greatest divide in London is between rich and poor and that's the one the Tories don't want you to think about as you cast your vote because it has exploded under their deliberate economic policies.

bang on - i commend your post - I was at an event in Tower Hamlets last week - one of the speakers made a joke about braving the so-called no-go area.
Sunak's (and Starmer's) line is transparent - scare folks so that they rush like nervous creatures to vote for their uselessness.
This sort of tactic has a long history++, even if this one is a shoddy pathetic British version of it.

++ Italy during the "strategy of tension" springs to mind when elements within the Italian state went to the extent of killing their own citizens in attacks. I don't for a second think Sunstarmer would stoop to that, but they are both more than willing to slander peaceful protesters who dare to step outside their westminster party games.

That's useless. It talks about "genders". So fuck knows what it's telling us.

Come back with a proper scientific report. Or you may as well make shit up. And we can all play that game.

The source is a source which collated data from the Met Police, ONS, MurderMap project , legal documentation and news reports.

These are all robust data sources, widely used by actual statisticians. The use of the contested word gender doesn't in any case change what the data reported shows about race and ethnicity. They didn't make it up.

but to balance the tone he had to come up with guff about far-right extremism, which kind of proves he's fallen victim to the same mob he talks about

Remind me again, who plotted to murder Rosie Cooper? Who murdered Jo Cox?

If you want to play the numbers game thanks for the simple tap in from two yards out.

Alexandra2001 · 02/03/2024 10:01

Why is it Khans London? are you Lee Anderson? he is the Mayor, not the Met Commissioner.

The overall murder rate in London is falling, its far lower than that in 1990 or 2000 or 2015.

Per capita, historic lows.

The Mayor of London’s Office is responsible for overseeing policing in Greater London, setting the priorities for community safety etc.

Exactly. It was never Johnson's London, was it?

The Mayor of London’s Office is responsible for overseeing policing in Greater London, setting the priorities for community safety etc.

The Commissioner is accountable in law for exercising police powers and to the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and is held to account for the delivery of policing by the Home Secretary and the Mayor of London.

Murder and plots to murder are not a game. The fact is that far right extremism exists and should be acknowledged as the threat it is.

Or do you think only certain types of extremism should be spoken about?

They are all rich and influential, so I don't think any of them are particularly oppressed are they?

I suppose Kate is under a huge amount of scrutiny here in the UK and also gets some hate. Not sure how popular or unpopular the other three are in their own countries or whether they have to deal with a similar level of scrutiny?

I believe murder and threats to murder are illegal.
We have the laws to deal with them.
I think the conviction rate for both is pretty high as well.
We need no lessons from Sunak and Starmer on democracy.

Abhannmor · 02/03/2024 17:34

Democracy is threatened so I'm cancelling elections for the foreseeable. You know it makes sense.

Perhaps we need to make them more illegal ?

Pretty sure Starmer wasn't the one speaking on the steps of Downing Street yesterday and yet , like clockwork, here you are to make this about Starmer.

I was just wondering if people would say Queen Rania because she’s Muslim tbh since muslim women are apparently so oppressed even when there are many who say they’re not… They’re still told by others that they are which is a bit weird… Princess Charlene I’m afraid seems very sad and didn’t seem to have much choice in marrying Albert 😕 Mary I’m not sure was in a great place with Fredrik when she suddenly became queen… and Kate is quite an enigma I guess… I will say from what I’ve seen overall Queen Rania seems in quite a different league though but who knows what goes on behind closed doors! But she’s not exactly someone who seems oppressed esp compared to other female royals in all fairness but she should be right considering she’s a Muslim royal 🤔

DuncinToffee · 03/03/2024 11:39

This morning Trevor Phillips repeatedly asked Jeremy Hunt to name the “extremists” Rishi Sunak referred to in his speech on Friday that attend the ceasefire marches, and which groups need to be proscribed

Hunt can’t name any
