Beth Rigby of Sky News says they've been reliably informed it's not going to be about a General Election, so what will it be?

What a load of shit. It’s the racist minority who are sneery to Muslims and then complain that Muslims won’t go drinking in the pub with them and integrate.

The cognitive dissonance is frightening.

Well said

How patronising of you to tell Muslim
women as a whole that they’re oppressed.

The Muslim women CEOs and doctors and bankers I know would laugh in your face.

Well you live in educated wealthy circles knowing bankers CEO'S. Etc Not all women do.

It's not vague and nonsensical, as it's what (some) people do.
Complain that people don't integrate but fail to understand or care that their values may be different to yours.
They might not just be able to meet you for a pint or glass of wine on a night out, or say come round for a play date if there's a mixed household or whatever (, just off the top of my head)
Doesn't mean they can't be lovely and friendly at the school gates or wherever.
A smile and a hi is usually universal.
Plus you aren't half generalising saying they're all oppressed.

Exactly, WTF.
If he was serious about creating a calm and less divisive environment he'd knock all this shit off for starters.

This cunt's got some neck. Galloway might be an anti semitic creepy cat orientated twat in a hat but unlike Rishi he has at least won a bloody election.

Look I can't stand Sunak or Galloway but they've both won elections to be elected as MPs

chaosmaker · 02/03/2024 01:26

When did Sunak win an election? Isn't he the 4th or 5th 'leader' of their party? After he lost to the woman who further tanked the economy.

Sunak has never won an election.
He just slunk in. Nobody voted for him.

And the woman next door to me whose husband was violent towards her, ripped the phone out the wall, took her mobile, got his parents to intimidate her, but who darednt leave, because of the repercussions on her daughters in terms of their future marriage prospects, wouldn’t be laughing in our faces. She was trapped, isolated and expected to do whatever her husband and his family expected. Domestic violence happens regardless of race, class and religion, but the freedoms available to her and her daughters were extra curtailed due to it being seen as more accepted culturally that the power in a relationship is more weighted towards men.

tobee · 02/03/2024 01:45

What so he slunk in as an MP for Richmond? Or are you being jocular @NoMoreFalafelsForYou ?

minou123 · 02/03/2024 01:45

chaosmaker and NoMoreFalafelsForYou are you getting confused about an election as an MP and an election as the Prime Minister?

Because Rishi Sunak has absolutely won an election. His constituency, Richmond North Yorkshire, voted and elected him as their MP in 2015.

He wasn't elected Prime Minister by the British public, but then again, we never vote for who will be the Prime Minister.

Very briefly - we vote for the MP for our area - the party that wins the most MPs becomes the government - the winning party chooses their leader and that leader of the party becomes Prime Minister. (That's a very simplified version of what happens).

tobee · 02/03/2024 01:47

Same as George Galloway. Although he's, of course, had a few constituencies

jazzybelle · 02/03/2024 01:48

He was trying to scare people. He was also electioneering.

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 02/03/2024 01:48

That's all I was meaning - nobody voted for him to be PM (I know we don't usually anyway)

I'm not sure how helpful this is to be so dismissive of other people's first hand experiences. I'm pleased that you get to mix with Muslim women who've done very well for themselves and achieved their career goals, but sadly this isn't the case for all. I've been asked in the past to keep friends passports who were absolutely terrified they were going to be taken abroad and forced into arranged marriages by their parents as they were deemed " too westernised ", and have offered my home as a safe space when their relatives have physically padlocked the doors to prevent them from leaving the home. I've been subjected to interrogation by numerous " aunties" wanting to know exactly where their female relatives are living when they've managed to escape. I've listened to friends fathers tell me they have the right to stop their daughters education if they don't behave. I've helped friends access mobiles when they have had theirs confiscated as they were not allowed friends who didn't meet their families strict criteria . I have " kept the secret" when friends have changed into jeans to enjoy a day out in an amusement park as they were not allowed to choose their own clothing. These are just a small selection of examples of personal liberty being taken away. It is a class issue I believe. You obviously mix with wealthier women, whereas my friends were from poorer, working class backgrounds. You not acknowledging this doesn't make it any less real and is incredibly naive to believe that just because it's not happening in your circle, it doesn't happen at all. It's actually doing a massive disservice to women for whom this is their day to day reality.

Feb poll, now only 24% of UK people believe that Israel's attack on Gaza after October was justified.
Only 13% polled thought Israel should continue it's military action in Gaza.

The Tory Govt is not representing its public on the Gaza issue. It it is not respecting democracy which is one reason why frustrated people march or vote Galloway.

Do you have a source for this poll?
Honest question.

OfficerChurlish · 02/03/2024 04:37

Well, I for one am disappointed; I thought he was going to announce that the UK was opening negotiations to rejoin the EU.

Keeping that one under wraps for a better moment, I guess.

It surprises me that the young don't protest more. They have been utterly shafted by low wages, high inflation and impossible house prices.

The education system values only rote learning and conformity, critical thinkng and creativity are surpressed, and the young are encouraged to spend as much time as possible on devices to further distract them from what is happening to them.

justasking111 · 02/03/2024 00:05

There's a father at our school. His children are not allowed to play with white children, go to their birthday parties, they're lovely popular children. They have an older brother doing A levels his father tells people that he's lazy, too westernised and will never get to university.

It's so sad.

Are they Jehovah's witnesses?

It would explain the no birthday parties, and they are unlikely to be allowed to play regularly with other children.

This country has rapidly turned into a shit hole. I don't know what the answer is, but its not George Galloway. Its not Keir Starmer either. Labour will get a term, be exposed for the clowns they are, and then we'll get the tories for another 20 years. Whoop di doo.

The answer is to remove the cause = Tory party.

Many people agree.

It strikes me that the Tory party hasn't become less misogynistic over time, have they yet to reach the point of becoming more secular?

Noicant · 02/03/2024 06:05

Tbh I’m not even sure what these protesters think will happen, you can harrass as many MP’s as you want, be a pain in the ass on the street, paint as many posters as you want and still the UK government can’t enforce a ceasefire.

None of it actually matters, it’s creating havoc, a massive policing bill, elective representatives in local councils (I mean really whats the point in bothering them!?) and MP’s are terrified and we are now having to shell out more for their protection and YOU WILL STILL NOT GET A CEASEFIRE UNLESS HAMAS AND ISRAEL WANT ONE.

There are loads of foreign policy issues I’m concerned about, Ukraine, Taiwan, Sudan, India, US elections and not once have I thought the answer was to vandalise an MP’s office or call them a baby killer.

Perhaps then the answer lies in ensuring that everyone has those opportunities, rather than defunding the services that those who are less well off rely on in a bid to make the rich richer and the poor poorer?
