Beth Rigby of Sky News says they've been reliably informed it's not going to be about a General Election, so what will it be?

This little podium stunt seemed rather OTT to me. As Beth Rigby said, it is usually reserved for big events like a resignation or to call an election and all we got was Roland Rat giving us a lecture!

Omg I knew he reminded me of someone 😂😂😂

They have had to retract the Rochdale bit from the speech

MPs do not feel safe in their homes.
Long standing Parliamentary conventions have been upended because of safety concerns.
[Please note political content redacted here.]I need to speak to you all this evening because this situation has gone on long enough…
…and demands a response not just from government, but from all of us.
Britain is a patriotic, liberal, democratic society with a proud past and a bright future.

Oh - and I am not sure we can be proud of all our past.

What has this bit got to do with extremism?

"When these groups claim that Britain is and has been on the wrong side of history, we should reject it, and reject it again.
No country is perfect, but I am enormously proud of the good that our country has done.
Our place in history is defined by the sacrifices our people have made,
…in the service of our own freedom and that of others.
And when these groups tell children that they cannot - and will not - succeed because of who they are…
When they tell children that the system is rigged against them or that Britain is a racist country…
This is not only a lie, but a cynical attempt to crush young dreams, and turn impressionistic minds against their own society.
I stand here as our country’s first non-white Prime Minister, leading the most diverse government in our country’s history…
…to tell people of all races, all faiths and all backgrounds…
…it is not the colour of your skin, the God you believe in or where you were born, that will determine your success…
…but just your own hard work and endeavour.
We must be prepared to stand up for our shared values in all circumstances, no matter how difficult."

Because I believe that the UK is often not on the right side of history.
I believe that there are barriers in life and you can face hurdles through no fault of your own but people treat you differently depending on your identity.

I know that just because he was able to do well, it does not mean there are no issues. You can work hard but life can be rigged against them.

Does that make me an extremist?

I guess so… I’m just so genuinely confused what extremism and democracy is these days, am I allowed to even say that… I Just don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not at all because the reality is that people rarely get to significantly better positions in life through 'hard work and endeavour', perhaps in decades gone by but no longer. Social mobility is at an all time low.

This country has rapidly turned into a shit hole. I don't know what the answer is, but its not George Galloway. Its not Keir Starmer either. Labour will get a term, be exposed for the clowns they are, and then we'll get the tories for another 20 years. Whoop di doo.

That was an good speech. Sunak is broadly correct about these issues, but he should have gone further and stated clearly that multiculturalism is fundamentally divisive and has failed. The current situation is proof of that.

One thing was very obviously missing, though. What is he actually going to do about ghettoisation in our communities and toxic & violent extremism on all sides?

Absolute rubbish. "Multiculturalism isn't working".
Don't know where you live but it is working beautifully where I live. Our family is multicultural. Our street if multicultural. My friends are, my kids friends are.
As with every bit of society twats exist but the Tories and their press (Daily mail, telegraph, times, express etc all) have done absolutely everything in their power to create a divide and rule way through hate and this speech perpetuates this yet again.
What a nob.

That's the lecturn Rishi uses, it's just the right height.

The target audience was the many many poor white nationals and decent immigrants who see the shit show the country has become. Not the Londonistas but the people who they see as stupid and racist. You know - ordinary people. The ones that object to the systematic rape of underage poor white girls, the ones who can't walk through London on a Saturday Incase they look too Jewish, the ones who object to the 15 new Turkish barbers in town, but never a Turk or a barber in any of them. Oh and those who object to modern slaves both existing and doing their low level jobs, in nail bars, car washes, Uber driving and security work.

That’s absolute bollocks, with two sons who like to get their hair cut every few weeks, I have been to at least 20 Turkish barbers in my city, all fully staffed by…Turkish barbers.

There's a father at our school. His children are not allowed to play with white children, go to their birthday parties, they're lovely popular children. They have an older brother doing A levels his father tells people that he's lazy, too westernised and will never get to university.

It's so sad.

HauntedBungalow · 02/03/2024 00:10

This cunt's got some neck. Galloway might be an anti semitic creepy cat orientated twat in a hat but unlike Rishi he has at least won a bloody election.

potato57 · 02/03/2024 00:16

No idea why he thought waffling on randomly and vaguely with such a bad speech warranted a big impromptu lectern stand on a Friday evening like it was the level of importance of the covid announcement times.

Just looked like he was pandering to Reform UK, who were salty that they lost so badly in Rochdale, especially to an independent, and were just attention seeking.

Of course. It’s the Muslim community who are the most vocal about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict? They are speaking out as many have relatives and friends in Palestine, and want a cease fire. It’s right they have concerns, and Galloway has fed into that by previously making anti Semitic comments, so the community have adopted him as one of their own.

Why are you conflating support of relatives and friends in Palestine with anti-Semitism? Very disturbing.

What a load of shit. It’s the racist minority who are sneery to Muslims and then complain that Muslims won’t go drinking in the pub with them and integrate.

The cognitive dissonance is frightening.

"I say this to the police: We will back you when you take action"
There are now less police officers per capita than when the Tories came to power.

Sunak commits to acting to prevent people entering the country "who undermine this country".
They could have committed to this 14 years ago.

Edited

I thought that 'people who undermine the country' were the ones in power that keep selling off our utilities, transport, water and everything they can that isn't nailed down and reward failure when/wherever it sticks its inadequate head up out of the slime.

For every one of your anecdotes, I can give you one about how I was excluded by white people or was subject to racism by white people.

No culture owns virtue and no culture owns vice.

How patronising of you to tell Muslim
women as a whole that they’re oppressed.

The Muslim women CEOs and doctors and bankers I know would laugh in your face.

I’ve got to be honest the wealthiest women I know and who seem to be in the least dramatic and stressful relationships do actually come from Muslim backgrounds… I find the reality doesn’t match with what is communicated in the media…A bit like the reality of dating between men and women tbh, if I believed everything I read in the media I’d have never ever gone on a date and thought I was past my sell by date 🤷🏻‍♀️

Blah12345678999 · 02/03/2024 00:33

I mean they’re all in well paid professions, perhaps they were pressured by their parents into that and it’s the culture etc

But you are talking as a whole about those women and you’re talking shit because they’re generalisations.

A white woman not working is a SAHM but a Muslim woman not working is an oppressed.

Your prejudice is clear.

And please don’t pretend that you care about Muslim women, just a couple of posts ago you were moaning that they sneer at Westerners.
