Duvets and covers!

helpyhelperton · 29/02/2024 22:50

Where oh where can I buy a duvet and covers that fit?

My daughter's decent duvet from John Lewis and covers from JL and M and S just don't fit well. The duvet just doesn't fill out the cover / it's quite a chunky duvet too.

Where can I find a duvet and covers that fit perfectly?

I find this to a certain extent with all covers and duvets but hers are particularly frustrating.

I don't know where I'm going wrong 🤷‍♀️

That's odd. All my covers fit my duvets. I have covers from M&S and lots of other stores. Stupid question but you are definitely buying the right size duvet cover for the duvet you have? You didn't accidentally buy a small double duvet or something? Or maybe the measurements of the duvet are off?

Caswallonthefox · 29/02/2024 23:09

I gave up on duvet covers and use a flat sheet under a naked duvet now.

babsnet · 29/02/2024 23:09

I would measure the duvet then check the size of the cover you are buying. I recently discovered not all single duvets are the same size, so presumably that may apply to the other sizes.

Try turning the duvet the other way. For my king size the lines run top to bottom but for my double the lines run side to side 🤷‍♀️

Scarletttulips · 29/02/2024 23:14

Find the label - it’s always at the bottom of the quilt - but o would bet it’s on sideways.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/02/2024 23:15

Our label always goes Top Left and it fits

YourWinter · 29/02/2024 23:16

I have no trouble with my John Lewis kingsize duvet and JL kingsize 100% cotton covers. Are you putting the duvet the right way round? Mine, for example, is stitched in squares and it’s 6 squares across, 7 squares long.

I want this duvet cover - DH says "No"

Do I sleep in the spare room or LTB?

I thought I was the only person having this problem. I also purchased a decent king sized duvet from JL (a number of years ago now) and every duvet cover including JL ones are too big!! I had considered that maybe the wrong size label had been put on the duvet so then tried a double cover on it, it was a bit small but not massively so.

Maybe the JL duvets are just not standard sizes; I wish I had never bought the thing. No problems with other duvets in the house from alternative suppliers.

Fucketyfecketyfoo · 29/02/2024 23:22

Bloody things. I’ve given up on them and flown headfirst into coverless duvets. Lovely!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/02/2024 23:22

IKEA are the worst I found , their sizes are made up / non standard ...but very nice duvets !

Terfosaurus · 29/02/2024 23:23

I've got this problem, but I don't think i used to so I assumed my duvet had shrunk. It's about 15 years old. And my duvet covers are only from Primark.

SleeplessInFife · 29/02/2024 23:36

@Terfosaurus

Maybe covers have gotten bigger over the years? It’s so frustrating, never noticed anyone else having the same problem. My mother has a Dorma duvet and covers and hers fit perfectly! Ditto my SIL. My cover always looks terrible and half empty!

I like that, how much is it?

Oh that's possible i guess, I hadn't considered that. I might treat myself to a new duvet at the start of the next winter.

Coverless duvets are what you need. Life changing.

Totally agree. I'm never going back to wrestling duvets into covers!

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/03/2024 12:58

How often do you wash a coverless duvet and how, if it’s king or super king size?

ThreeRingCircus · 01/03/2024 13:18

Our coverless duvets get washed weekly along with the other bedding. Our king size one fits in the washing machine and tumble dryer with no problems, but it's a 4 tog. We had a 10 tog one previously that was a bugger to clean.

In winter we just have a thick throw over the top of the duvet for extra warmth.

DDs have single coverless duvets and also an extra blanket in the winter. I can wash one of their sets with mattress protector, single sheet, coverless duvet, pillowcase and blanket all in one wash.

Does he say “no” or does he say “no no no no no no no!”?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/03/2024 17:42

FortunataTagnips · 01/03/2024 16:09

Does he say “no” or does he say “no no no no no no no!”?

If he started singing
Oh, mamma mia, mamma mia
Mamma mia, let me go
I might excuse him , but I think it's more "No way am I sleeping under Roger Taylor" ( he;s such a savage <sigh> )

Like vanity sizing, only for duvets?

Caswallonthefox · 01/03/2024 21:21

So basically, it's what the Americans call a comforter and what my granny, in ancient times, used to call a quilt.
Which means we are basically taking a step backwards.
I am in my 50's. I had sheets and blankets, then sheets and quilt, then duvet and duvet cover.
Now I have a duvet (without a cover) on top of a flat sheet. This option, for me, is cheaper because I only have to wash sheets and easier because I don't have to fight with a duvet cover.

greengreengrass25 · 01/03/2024 21:25

I find some duvet covers slipaway in the corners or the actual duvet does

DanWinds63 · 17/05/2024 10:55

I completely understand your frustration with finding the right fit for duvet covers. I've had similar issues in the past. I highly recommend checking out Woods Fine Linens. They have a fantastic range of duvets and covers that fit perfectly, even for chunkier duvets. Their quality is top-notch, and I've always been satisfied with my purchases from them. Give it a try – I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
