Just watching his documentary, Stranger in my own skin, very sad but I had no idea how poetically talented he was he was, or anything about his upbringing…
He would have been the type of person I’d have grown up thinking was a bit of a scary waste of space due to my own parents generational narrow mindedness…
Anybody that didn’t act and live as they did was someone to be cautious off and whisper about. It’s left me now as a much more tolerant (and non prejudiced) adult being really interested in peoples lives that differ from my own.
Pete grew up in a very strict military family, behind the wire where all adults were in uniform and lived a very regimented and rule filled lives, for him to grow up and stand out as a creative alternative soul would have been really difficult and it’s incredible to think the fame he found almost instantly..
He also has a degree in English Lit.
Of course drugs/heroin took hold and there were a lot of dark time for him but (I’m not at the end of the documentary yet) I think he comes out the other side.
Did anyone see him and band live? What were your thought on him back in the day?
