I made a chicken casserole (coq au vin) on Sunday and it's been in the fridge since then. Will it be okay to eat tonight?

If the chicken was on or very close to its BB date then no. But if it had 4 or 5 days left to go then it will be fine.

I wouldn't.

Dartmoorcheffy · 29/02/2024 13:53

If its been in the fridge since you made it and not been reheated then yes it will be absolutely fine. As long as it was ok to eat when you cooked it, the eat before date is irrelevant once you have cooked it.

My limit is usually 3 full days, so I probably wouldn't eat it.

GingerScallop · 29/02/2024 13:55

Definitely OK. If your fridge is working well then it's OK 7 to 10 days. You can add a look and sniff taste

Dartmoorcheffy · 29/02/2024 13:56

I wouldn't go as long as 10 days to be honest. Food safety says 3 to 4 days. Today is the 4th day and they err on the side of caution. I would say 6 days max as long as it has been kept below 5 degrees.

idontlikealdi · 29/02/2024 13:58

No my max is 3 days for chicken

bergentrain · 29/02/2024 14:10

Oh gosh! What a lot of mixed responses. On balance I think I'll err on the side of caution and just get takeout!

What difference would that make? Once the food is cooked the bb date is redundant.

If you cooked it 10 days prior to expiry you'd still only keep it for 3/4 days Confused
