I'm meeting strangers off the Internet! *lighthearted *

Sorry for the click bait title but I've just realised I'm doing something I would hate my kids to do.
I'm going alone to an organised meet up for a niche hobby (fantasy related), staying in a hotel and spending all weekend with people I have never met before.
My teens were shocked I'm doing this as we gave taught them Internet safety but it all looks above the board and I'm a fully grown women.
Please reassure me I'll have fun and not end up at the bottom of a shallow grave! This is my first time doing something so bold!
Dh is staying at home with the DC so it was alone or not at all.

It's "people" not an unknown person and there will be others about. You'll be fine.

I expect your teens are taught that such things are fine when others are about too. It's not as if you are going for a 1:00 am walk in the woods.

If I can't see any malware as an app, on my phone, security apps don't detect any threats, I have a VPN and my Google accounts look secure, how can somebody be viewing my phone screen, particularly when they have police officer friends to help them?

Many moons ago, pre-mumsnet, there was a discussion board called Handbag. There were many big meets through that forum and like you, I rocked up at one in London on my own and stayed in a hotel with a load of them. I am still friends with several 20 years later.
