Could this be TMJ?

For two days now my jaw has felt sore. It's been making clicking/ popping noises which I sometimes also feel in my ear. It's only on one side.

If read online about TMJ and think it could be that.

Can anyone else share their symptoms of this and anything they do to help?

It sounds like it could be. I have had issues with my jaw for years. Both clicking when jawning. I can wake up with a burning feeling down one side of face and neck and also feels like a toothache but in mutiple teeth on that side. A dentist should be able to give advice on this and possibly make a splint if necessary.

Sorry I should have added I have been a nail biter on/off for years and always find when not biting the pain goes away for some time or at least isn't anywhere near as bad. Stressful times cause it to be worse for clenching grinding my teeth also mainly ay night. When is the pain felt? A dentist really is the best person to give advice on this.

Thank you. I will contact my dentist as soon as I can. The pain feels worse at night if I have been laying on that side.

I get this if I’m stiff elsewhere (hips or shoulders) so if I’ve had a few days of something that’s not good for my posture, whether that’s tension/stress or something physical like a bad pillow or carrying heavy work bag, I eventually feel it in my jaw. You could try yoga, stretching or even just doing a kind of body check to see if you’re holding tension in your shoulders and try and relax your muscles a bit.

Yes it could be in my experience. I was given a thing to wear at night but I think it was stress related as it went after a while. My jaw isn’t well aligned which doesn’t help.

I think I have been a bit more stressed lately which I then find I bite my nails more. Also my posture isn't the best.

Has anyone found massaging the jaw to help?

I've just been diagnosed with TMJD and my main/obvious symptoms are jaw ache, neck ache and my cheek bones feel stiff and sore. Massage helps loads, specifically starting with your fingertips on your jaw and pushing/rubbing upwards towards your cheekbone with firm pressure repeatedly.

my GP told me it was stress related
i had exercises and it cured it

I have had TMJ, one of the most painful things ever ... can't work out whether the pain is ears, jaw or toothache. Everything hurts. Could just about get a toothbrush between my teeth.

Dentist wasn't much help ... in fact, she tried to pull my mouth open ... I screamed ....

In the end had physio through the NHS, and a series of excercises to do which have helped. I'm still very careful about not over chewing, or biting something hard.
