Hob vs oven?

If a recipe says to cook in the oven for an hour, is there any reason I shouldn't leave it in a pan on the hob for an hour, whilst stirring every now and again?

Recipe says to do the onions etc on the hob, add everything else, put in the oven.

Yes it’s absolutely fine if it has liquid. Just keep the burner on as low as you can.

The oven will probably give a lower, more even heat. If you do it on the hob use the lowest heat you can and a heat diffuser.
