PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 27/02/2024 21:36

So after several years I decided to buy a bread maker but :I can't. They are all out of stock?
What the dilly is going on!

There are some on Amazon. I bought a Morphy Richards one a while back and it's great. Does seem to be a thing at the moment!

Skipinthegarden · 27/02/2024 22:19

Checked a few shops and you’re right - how odd!
Looks like Lakeland are expecting stock on 18th March for one of theirs .

Taylormiffed · 27/02/2024 22:20

It's probably the container ship delays as they can't come via the Gulf.

Taylormiffed · 27/02/2024 22:22

*Red Sea, sorry.

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 27/02/2024 22:23

Wow, the red sea causing issues!

There is a big no UPF trend atm

Mazuslongtoenail · 27/02/2024 22:40

Whaaaat?! My motor has just burnt out and I need to order a new one tomorrow.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 27/02/2024 22:43

Buy one secondhand from Marketplace or eBay or try your local charity shops. So many people buy them and then don't use them once the novelty's worn off.

Kirstyr455 · 27/02/2024 22:48

Lidl had some in this week

iwiporangi · 27/02/2024 23:45

Can't you make it in the normal way?

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 28/02/2024 06:28

@iwiporangi. No.

I will check lidl.
I wanted a Panasonic one. But I'm willing to try something cheaper, from the reviews I read people seem to be wedded to them for life

I've one lying on the middle of the hall floor that I keep meaning to sell/charity. Was a great novelty when we first got it and did us a turn through the beast from the east and start of lockdown. The neighbours loved us 😂. Since then it's been gathering dust moving from one spot to another.

Big bulky and annoying.

Goforitagain · 28/02/2024 06:39

I had the Panasonic on back order from Lakeland since Black Friday, it kept saying dates when it would be in but they passed, latest date is mid March but I bet that will pass too. I cancelled the order last week as we will be on holiday in March and I didn't want to risk it coming while we were away. So don't hold your breath for the Panasonic at Lakeland.

happypillsareworking · 28/02/2024 06:43

Honestly get a mixer instead that kneads, so many better options for bread and it's so much lighter!!

Seagrassbasket · 28/02/2024 06:46

I imagine it’s a combination of people eating less UPF (bought bread is one of the worst things for it) and COL? People may be thinking it’ll pay for itself in a year or whatever.

DP used to make our sourdough and it was amazing, need to get him back on that!!

CurlewKate · 28/02/2024 06:56

I bake our bread and honestly, I think bread makers are a waste of money. It takes very little effort and organisation to make a loaf every few days particularly if you make low knead or no knead and raise it in the fridge.

EndlesslyDistracted · 28/02/2024 07:01

We've had two over the years and got rid of them, they take up so much space and it is very easy to make bread manually, you just need to get a bit of a routine going.

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 28/02/2024 07:04

@Seagrassbasket which make did you go for please

Notincel · 28/02/2024 07:08

OP if you are going to get one, get the panasonic. There is no comparison with the cheaper ones. I am not a panasonic owner, so I'm not biased! I have experience with lots of different breadmakers and I would not consider anything other than a panasonic.

Kittybelle123 · 28/02/2024 07:11

I've been mulling over bread makers again too, but am wondering whether to go down the 'bake it yourself' route as my two previous bread maker results have been so disappointing, they ended up gathering dust and then gave them away.

@CurlewKate - do you use a loaf tin? Can you suggest a foolproof recipe?

Sorry to derail your thread OP!

LeSoleil · 28/02/2024 07:20

We had so much rain this winter, it burst the banks on my mill pool and now I have no way of powering my mill wheel. I have tried to get the pond maintenance company out, but they never answer their phones these days and fob me off with excuses. With inflation they want nearly 30 times what they charged me in 1958. It's no laughing matter.

Notincel · 28/02/2024 07:21

😂

I saw an article the other day (sorry can’t remember where) suggesting that bread makers were the most under used kitchen item. But I think it did also say that as a result they could be found second hand

Peppapog263 · 28/02/2024 07:27

Definitely hold out for a Panasonic one if you can! Had ours a year and use it all the time although I’ve also now been making sourdough which I love (not in BM). I’d look on Facebook marketplace too while you’re waiting.

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 28/02/2024 07:29

I have just looked on Ebay, thanks for the reminder! They have loads and obviously much cheaper!
