What would you do?

Planning a holiday that I can't really get out of for personal reasons that I'd rather not share in case a family member is on here (specifics would make it obvious who I am)

Me and DH were planning on having another DC this year. Obviously we haven't told anyone this so not discussed with those going on the holiday. I'm worried about travelling while pregnant. If all goes to plan I would be between 2-5 months pregnant at the time of the holiday.

What would you do?
I'm thinking either;
A) hold off TTC until we return (isn't a big deal but would rather not for personal reasons)
B) TTC and go on the holiday (taking into consideration the risks with this)

Any other suggestions welcomed

What risks? Plenty of women go on holiday when they are pregnant and you're going at a good point in your pregnancy.

Plus you might not even be pregnant by then...

EVHead · 27/02/2024 19:40

What would be the risks on holiday? Is it the holiday that involves risk, or is the risk more related to the pregnancy?

I wouldn't go on holiday abroad but then everyone's different, I would make an excuse and not go but that's me x

@EVHead both. Firstly it's a long haul flight. It's not the typical relaxing holiday i.e lots of parks/rides/potentially 'risky' (for a pregnant woman) activities that our DC will want to do but will be too young to go alone. I assume I won't be able to go on or participate in much (which I'm not too bothered about but will feel guilty re the DC if DH is doing something)

If I were you I would try to conceive and also go on holiday, unless it’s a zika infected country?

junubu · 27/02/2024 19:54

@LucyLaundry good point I may not be pregnant but if I go off my previous pregnancies, we succeeded in the first month of TTC so there's potentially a good chance that I will be

Florida then?

I couldn’t think of anything worse while pregnant, I’d put off TTC.

junubu · 27/02/2024 20:24

Thanks all. Mixed responses so far. Anyone else?

@DrunkenElephant why so? Just because it may help me decide

@junubu It may be different for you, but I found pregnancy hard.

I wouldn’t want to be somewhere so hot, full on and busy if I was potentially feeling unwell or exhausted.

Is there potential for you to opt out of some of the parks and relax in the accommodation instead?

Raccaccoonie · 27/02/2024 20:48

At 2-5 months life was fairly normal in my experience - unless you have awful sickness, which I did second time around. You'll be fine and it might not even happen (also took far longer second time around!)

Someone else will be able to take them on the rides so you can take it easy?

Sunnnybunny72 · 27/02/2024 20:57

I would wait and did so for DC2. I felt utterly exhausted in the early days and then utterly sick, and did indeed vomit on and off day and night until I was about six months. Signed off work sick both times for several weeks with nausea and vomiting.
