I need to buy a gift for for 30 something DN who’s into board games. Nothing super complicated or long and drawn out but not just a quick party game either. Googling has lead me to Azul, anything else worth considering?

Edit: 2-6 players, and children won’t be playing.

Labyrinth is a good game
Monopoly EMPIRE - 20 mins max
Uno - any

We like Colour Brain - can be as quick or as long as you want to make it.

Think she mainly has the well known games, monopoly, Cluedo etc. Maybe has Catan to as it’s quite well known, but isn’t it also quite long/complicated?

Wingspan

If there is a group playing we enjoy Secret Identity, Herd Mentality and Just one

HideTheCroissants · 27/02/2024 18:58

Carcassonne, Wingspan, Catan, Cascadia are in the most played in this house.

Codenames is great. I like number 9, mysterium, sagrada is beautiful, villainous is popular, cards against humanity (rude and funny but best not played with your parents), wavelength is great but better for a larger group, taskmaster, six second scribbles. Honestly there are so many nice games. John Lewis usually has a nice selection if you want to browse.

Azul
Carcassonne
Namiji (I got this last Christmas and we've been playing it at least once a week! Beautiful artwork too)

Azul is good. Jaipur is a nice quick one for 2 players. Disney villainous is a favourite in my family. Ticket to ride is a pretty classic board game too.

Thanks for all the suggestions, plenty to think about and even tempted to try some of these for myself now!

We’ve been really enjoying Codenames lately.

Labralion · 27/02/2024 21:39

Codenames!! Mostly played they duet one with my best friend and we have such a good laugh with it!

BlueChampagne · 28/02/2024 15:18

Catan isn't long and complicated compared with some games on the market.

Second Wingspan, and suggest Nusfjord and At the Gates of Lo Yang.
For a smaller game, second Jaipur and suggest Patchwork.
