Does this sound ‘normal’ for a virus?

Or post virus? Not sure if I should be pushing for more investigations at this point or if I should just accept my fate!

I caught some disgusting thing 5 weeks ago. Started with a mild cold, then full blown flu type symptoms. Aches, temperature 40+, vomiting stuck in bed for 4-5 days solid. Progressed into a chest infection, coughing up brown stuff for a week. Managed to drag myself to the walk in centre, 2 lots of antibiotics later I finally felt a tiny bit better but not great.

After that though I’ve just never recovered. I have constant headaches and mild fluey type aches. Nausea and diahorrea intermittently for 5 weeks. My food tastes rotten. No energy to do anything at all, had 3 weeks off work a very physical job but now need to go back because I no longer will be paid. My body feels completely broken. I am normally very fit and active (plus have 2 under 2 😩) but it’s killing me being so miserable and with 0 motivation at all. I feel like I could sleep for a week after one school run and it’s less than half a mile!

Ive had bloods, normal. Started taking multivitamins just incase. Getting as much sleep as 2 toddlers allow.

Should I ask the doctor to do more?! I feel like a pest because realistically what can be done? Has anyone else had this and is there anything at all that will help me?!

Oh bless you, Ponies. You sound to be having a really horrible time of it. I can’t imagine having 2 under 2 whilst even feeling half as bad as you are.

I’m so sorry, I don’t have much in the way of helpful advice, but I couldn’t just read your post and not offer at least a bit of comfort and moral support. Here’s an un-mumsnetty hug: 🤗. And some 💐. And some 🍇.

Get well soon x

Sorry you've been feeling so bad. It sounds very much like the symptoms I had with covid over Christmas - have you tested? The latest strain seems to be a really nasty one.

Poniesandpigs · 27/02/2024 18:12

Thank you @StringTheory1 I'm just about alive with the support of the iPad and cocomelon 😄

I haven’t tested for covid @Growlybear83 DH had the same virus which lasted a week and it was Covid negative so I presumed mine was too but it just hasn’t seemed to go away for me! Did yours last a long time?

I feel much the same after 4 weeks. I am certain it's covid despite not testing positive. I've had it twice before and it is following exact the same path. Previously its lasted 5 weeks so really hoping I will feel better next week.

Poniesandpigs · 27/02/2024 18:26

Ah I’m sorry your here too @RainBow725

I’ve had Covid twice before and never had anything like this! I feel like I’ve been ran over 😄 Have you still had to go to work etc? I’m dreading my return next week I’ve no idea how I’m going to manage…I cried after having to go to asda for some milk nevermind a 12 hour shift!

Oh, you poor old thing.
This sounds terribly normal unfortunately, it's a nasty post viral syndrome.
More common as we age.
Progress might be slow, but it will get better.
Sometimes takes about 12 weeks.
Pace yourself as much as you can with 2 toddlers.
Cut out all alcohol
Reasurring your bloods are OK.
Do hope you feel better soon. Its absolutely wretched.

I'm so sorry you are going through this OP. I don't have any advice other than to ask if you've taken any probiotics? When you've been sick with vomiting and diarrhea your body is stripped of all the 'good' bacteria - it can throw your gut off balance. I also have a friend with long covid and they have been recommended.

I use them after any kind of D&V now and they help alot. You can get them in capsule format too. Not saying they will magically work but could be worth a try.

Poniesandpigs · 27/02/2024 19:28

I haven’t tried probiotics but I will certainly give them a go. I’ve got an awful sickly feeling all the time, plus my food tastes horrible. I can taste but it’s faint and everything seems off even though it’s not.

I don’t drink or smoke.

I’ve also been taking vitamin D and bought some metatone tonic which has done nothing but makes me feel like I’m trying!
