Period changes. Baffled. Can anyone explain any of this?

Context - later 30s, periods predictable with a 28 day cycle for as long as I can remember, they last 4 days (day 1: higher volume, bright blood, day 2: significantly reduced volume, blood is bright but might turn darker, day 3: very little, brown, day 4: a non-event, very little, brown, only a bit worse than discharge), a mix of clots/thick blood and thinner blood from the onset but mostly gloopier. They are ALWAYS the same.

In case any of this is relevant…I’m in a battle with thrush right now and have been trying a lot of stuff up there (including Yes moisturiser as I seem to keep getting sore). And I’m in a long distance relationship that restarted a few months ago and hadn’t had sex for many months before that - it’s famine to feast so I’m either not having sex for a couple of weeks or having a few days of non-stop sex. I’m also temporarily on a calcium channel blocker called nimodipine. Clear smear test a few months ago. Clear STD tests.

Last month my period was 3 days early, brown, clumpy from the onset. (I did a pregnancy test as it was so off but this was negative). This month my period was 2/3 days late, every day is like day 1 and it’s still going a bit with bright red and thin blood 4 days later. I can’t speak to any specific other issues or abdominal pain today as I have other health issues and I’m quite unwell today.

I understand that I’m sliding into peri but this is just weird. Is there anything jumping out at anyone in terms of what’s going on?

Have you had covid or a covid vaccine recently?

MoisturiseYourMoose · 26/02/2024 22:53

@Paradiddlediddle I haven’t. It’s not impossible that I had it asymptomatically of course but nothing to suggest I’ve had it.

Meh? Periods change. Mine have done so throughout my life. I don’t think there’s anything to worry about

@Flowerfairie Yeah I’d write it off that way too if it wasn’t coinciding with all these other vagina woes - and causing problems in the windows where I can see my boyfriend.

You say your'e battling with thrush but have you been to your GP? I have had severe cases of thrush over the years and in the past have been prescribed multiple doses of Fluconazole which only cured the thrush over a week or so. You may also find that your partner needs to be treated too - otherwise he's just constantly re-infecting you.

Lots of things can upset your cycle - medications - stress - all sorts. I don't think you need to be overly concerned but if your'e going o GP for thrush anyway it's probably worth talking to them just to put your mind at rest if nothing else.
