One for everyone hoping for a May election.

Budget red book says no spending review before the next election.

(Still think it will be an Autumn election as they'll wait for inflation to fall and for "something" to happen - but i am a pessimistic sod)

"Also if BMI is a qualification they have some chunky skeletons in their closet"
Quite.

Did Peter Mandelson also make a remark about Theresa Coffey ? .. not holding my breath

If he did, that would make it worse not better. There's no call for him to be discussing anyone's weight. It was a twat thing to do, though I agree not likely to have any wider significance.

I disagree. They’ll try and capitalise on the NI cut asap. It’s going to appear on April payslips and they’ll be reminding the electorate at every possible opportunity for the next 57 days, ie until 2 May.

It was a stupid thing to say by Mandelson but its hardly ammo - no one is going to look at Starmer and think I'm not going to vote for this perfectly normal looking 60 yr old man cos he's not as slim as Sunak. Also if BMI is a qualification they have some chunky skeletons in their closet

There was a caller on LBC earlier saying he won't vote for Starmer because he is a fence sitting vegetarian and not a true vegan

Notonthestairs · 06/03/2024 15:36

Well I certainly hope you are right blossom!

BIossomtoes · 06/03/2024 15:38

Me too. And not because I’ll look foolish if I’m wrong!

DuncinToffee · 06/03/2024 15:40

Paul Johnson (IFS), "Jeremy Hunt had a couple of billion for investment in NHS IT. He said the aim is to get it to world-leading. I'd say getting it to barely adequate would be a good start, given how poor some of it is"

"One of the reasons the NHS is struggling with it's productivity at the moment is that capital spending was cut back when Jeremy Hunt was Health Secretary"

Jason118 · 06/03/2024 15:41

Hasn't moved any dials so far.

Awesome😂. He's actually worse than that. He's a pescatarian - he thinks fish are vegetables, when he isn't thinking women have penises. Will he still win without the hardline vegans backing him?

Oh look another one

https://x.com/miqdaad/status/1765305064883736819?s=20

Baroness Foster falsely accused a Muslim student, Ms Gorgianehon, of antisemitism over an octopus mascot on University Challenge (note: the others weren't accused)

Foster tried to get Gorgianehon expelled from Oxford

She's now been forced to pay significant compensation

Good

Thsi was all over Twitter on the evening of the airing of the show. It was nasty.

Also ridiculous as was filmed ages ago.

I did have to tell a colleague the other day that her MFL octopus display could be perceived as an anti Semitic trope...

Notonthestairs · 06/03/2024 13:37

Biggest thanks go to Martin Lewis there (yes I am a Lewis fan).

And Mohamad Yasin, Labour MP for Bedford who spearheaded the campaign in parliament.

pointythings · 06/03/2024 16:15

I feel sorry for the octopus. What did they ever do except be smart and adorable?

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2024 16:22

Got used by the Nazis, sadly.

This is scary stuff

Donelan had ordered her officials to draw up a secret dossier on one of the academic's “militant left” social media posts

The 11-page dossier catalogued three years' of her posts on trans rights, Black Lives Matter & criticisms of No 10

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1765127425544122878.html

Policy Exchange seem to be at the root of a lot of conspiracy-type reporting.

They are also the source of the "trans women breastfeeding" craziness a week or so ago. And the getting rid of the EA.

They are also not very transparent. So anything I see coming from them I treat with a large pinch of salt. Much to the extreme annoyance of some of the more right wing MN posters, strangely

Maybe Starmer should say that Sunak is short on ideas?

Cornettoninja · 06/03/2024 17:15

I’m very immature but I would genuinely really love that @Alexandra2001 Grin

DuncinToffee · 06/03/2024 17:20

74% think the Budget is not enough to help them with the rising cost of living, according to a snap poll from @Savanta_UK of 1,038 adults

Alexandra2001 · 06/03/2024 17:22

Robert Buckland being asked again and again (Sky) why NI is going down by 4% but just 2 years ago the "plan" was to increase NI to pay for Adult Social Care...... which Buckland was reminded is still a mess.

He looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

In a UK TV first, the Sky News-YouGov Voters Panel of Tory 2019 supporters gives their verdict

Responses from our panel have been flooding in

This Budget was for them - did it work?

I maintain that no matter what Hunt said today, many people will not be impressed with it because trust in the Tories has been so utterly destroyed. Well done Johnson and Sunak!

What was it that Hunt was accidentally called when he was culture secretary?

Cornettoninja · 06/03/2024 17:42

and health secretary…. Think most of his positions have managed to slip that one in Grin

DuncinToffee · 06/03/2024 17:49

Rwanda bill is back and HoL, 7 defeats and counting

Maybe Sunak should have a lie down in his made bed.

Cornettoninja · 06/03/2024 18:00

At this point I want them to get that sodding lecture out and Rishi just to have a full blown tantrum - ‘fine, have your bloody general election. I didn’t want to be prime minister anyway, the flat is too small and rubbish”
