I think he wants to top trump Starmer by making a statement about Galloway, and blaming Labour.

He can't just ban protests from the steps of Downing Street can he? I can't get there quickly enough to protest.

GG was voted in through a democratic vote, Sunak and others might not like that but in fairness GG is a lot less dangerous than Farage, Sunak would have that man back in the Tory party.

I guess Sunak values right wing nutters more than left wing ones?

Surely this speech must be a bit more than Rochdale?

Cornettoninja · 01/03/2024 17:17

Not a general election. It is about “protecting democracy”

aw, Liz has only just gotten on board the ‘democracy is dead’ fad. He’s going to make her look all uncool and like a twat again.

Vod · 01/03/2024 17:19

Shame Sunak wasn't more interested in protecting democracy in 2019, when he was part of a government that unlawfully prorogued Parliament.

Yes. Probably about the Willy Wonka Experience ...

Alexandra2001 · 01/03/2024 17:23

Don't get it, the lectern is supposed to be about v important stuff.

The Rochdale by election is democracy in action, can't cry "Protect Democracy" just because you don't like the result.

Especially as he is backing Anderson and his attacks on a democratically elected Mayor.

Maybe ask why the DM held this information until it was impossible for Lab to get another candidate?

fabio12 · 01/03/2024 17:24

Just had a thought that they're going to say Russia somehow interfered with the vote and now we can't have a GE Shock Let's hope that's my over active imagination...

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/03/2024 17:30

He’s going to talk about protecting democracy? In a non ironic way?

Wait a minute while I stop laughing.

placemats · 01/03/2024 17:32

Chris Bryant on X said that if it's about protecting MPs , the announcement should be made in Parliament.

The Tories are doing very badly in the recent polls.

IClaudine · 01/03/2024 17:32

Maybe he is just going to waffle a bit rather announce something? Or he will announce something feeble.

Notonthestairs · 01/03/2024 17:37

Oh for Gods sakes, there is only reason we want the bloody lectern wheeled out again - to call an election.

tobee · 01/03/2024 17:39

Who else thinks we'll be none the wiser after he makes his statement? About anything?

I’m hoping 🤞

cakeorwine · 01/03/2024 17:40

My bet is on banning the protest in London.

I think that will just encourage protests.

Me!

Can't see what there is to say, just looks like a bid to grab the limelight from Galloway.
But he'll just end up looking weak.

He can't ban protests anywhere.

cakeorwine · 01/03/2024 17:42

He wants to do it inside because it's raining

placemats · 01/03/2024 17:42

It's going to be delayed because the decision has been made to do it inside No 10. Raining halts play.

Piggywaspushed · 01/03/2024 17:43

What?? Do they not have big brollies??

Alexandra2001 · 01/03/2024 17:43

Lol!

This has all the elements of farce

Piggywaspushed · 01/03/2024 17:44

I was actually just idly thinking the vain one had waited until the rains held off.

Piggywaspushed · 01/03/2024 17:45

Oh , here he is.

placemats · 01/03/2024 17:45

He's out.

Just came on to say who thought a statement at 5.30 in the rain was a good idea but see they’ve moved it inside.

They really are hilariously bad at this stuff.

Piggywaspushed · 01/03/2024 17:46

Don't get our hopes up place

Alexandra2001 · 01/03/2024 17:47

Early days but apparently a democratic vote in Rochdale is now something we must all fight against.....
