Can anyone help my husband please? He's branching out on his own and is looking for a good name for his driving school. It's a one person business and his name is Stuart if that helps any.

Thanks!

My favourite one in a nearby city is Startkey and Clutch 😂

Old L Passo - with the L done like an L plate!

Best I've ever seen'

EasterMummie · 26/02/2024 19:06

I think i'd avoid one based on his name, just in case he ever wants to sell his business (not sure if this is a thing in driving instructor businesses but worth a consideration).

How about something to do with where you live, eg
Oxford school of motoring
Bristol Driving school
Brighton Driver training
Wigan Wheels

Or something asperational like
Aspire Driving Lessons
Driving Excellence

Love the StartKey & Clutch one above though, how great is that?!

BroccoliHighkicks · 26/02/2024 19:13

'To L and Back'

Round here (we are in Scotland too) it's like Stuart's School of Driving or McDonald Motoring or similar using the name. I don't think the jokey name is a good brand if you want to be taken seriously and give the impression you are going to be churning out good drivers.

Other local ones are called things like Going Forward, or Road Ahead, or Open Road or similar.

EasterMummie · 26/02/2024 19:38

Here's some more ideas

Miles Ahead School of Motoring (Was trying to think of something to do with the Royal Mile but this is all I could come up with)
Castle Driving School
Edinburgh Driving Academy
Driving Excellence
Accelerator Driving Academy

EasterMummie · 26/02/2024 19:39

Last one, Forth Gear Driving School 😂

DappledThings · 26/02/2024 19:43

chickenpieandchips · 26/02/2024 19:48

@DappledThings are you in south east London??

I was living there when I saw it, yes!

My husband used his full name followed by driving school. It works perfectly as when people ask for reviews on Facebook, many people use his name even if they trained under his previous franchise name. People search him up on Facebook and find him straight away. He has to turn work down as he has a full diary with a long waiting list even though other instructors are complaining that it is quiet.

Also, other instructors recognise him by name. When he recently blew a tyre on an A road, he has 3 instructors see him and message on the local chat to see if he needed help (He had changed his car the week before).

chickenpieandchips · 26/02/2024 19:57

I do wonder how they get business but they obviously do!
My son's teacher has a random mix of letters that don't have anything to do with his name. Think he gets all his work by word of mouth so it doesn't really matter.

Thiswayorthatway · 26/02/2024 19:57

One L of a drive

PiggieWig · 26/02/2024 19:57

Accelerate - if he’s offering fast pass courses

Key Tuition

2ApplesShortOfABasket · 26/02/2024 19:58

Just to add, using a generalised name means a customer has no idea if you are one instructor or a group of instructors (which often happens around here). My theory is that they are overlooked when someone recommends someone by name because they can’t be sure who they will get.

cortex10 · 26/02/2024 19:58

This is a memorable one I saw a while ago - but not recommended - Less Lessons

Pacifybull · 26/02/2024 20:00

I wouldn’t use anything too jokey, though. That would really put me off them.
