Is there a thread about this already?

So many questions…

There seems to be very little cake in that, erm, cake.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 26/02/2024 15:38

To be fair there was plenty of press and opinions on the wealthy couple who spent an obscene amount of money on there wedding last year.

Just think of all those businesses and people who were paid for their work. Caterer’s, DJ’s, dress designers, wait staff etc. Better they spend their money than hoard it away like Scrooge McDuck!!

Childhood sweetheart, lol ... Sorry. 🙂

Absolutely stunning cake.

It's nice to read a happy story of someone having their dream day and dream cake rather thank someone sad facing about something inane for a change.

Jk987 · 26/02/2024 15:46

Good for them! Everyone's different. If they've got the money, go for it! Yes they're young and it's expensive but do what brings you joy that's what I say!

Or try to get it all for free because they are a celebrity or an influencer, like that actress Catherine Tyldesley who got roasted last year for her for her PR rep trying to blag a free birthday cake in exchange for publicity.

I’d be embarrassed to charge £13000 for a “cake” that was mostly polystyrene. Obviously I understand you can’t construct something that size from cake, but I think I’d rather have a polystyrene sculpture and decent cake out the back to cut up.

The cake itself is a showstopper I suppose but in the photos without all the lights, it’s just not that well executed in my opinion. I’ve definitely seen much better fairy castle cakes.

Beezknees · 26/02/2024 15:54

This is normal in traveller culture. They marry very young, spend obscene amounts of money on weddings/designer clothes, etc.

But the funds must come from older family members, surely?

Probably best not to say “obscene”, that’s a bit judgmental.

Prefer the one that my 18yo made for her Dad this weekend

This go the thumbs up from my brood . Looks ace!

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 26/02/2024 15:57

Well it's a lot more impressive than the Victoria sponge I made for my oh, decorated with M&Ms spelling out NO 1 KNOBHEAD and a tealight perched on top because I couldn't find the birthday candles 🤣🤣🤣

pickledandpuzzled · 26/02/2024 16:02

I have to say that Alice from VIcar of Dibley would have loved that cake! It’s very young at heart.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 26/02/2024 16:02

@Heather37231 Travellers are very traditional, so it's highly likely her Father paid for the wedding. I'm not sure why you're so concerned with who paid for their wedding?

Lavenderandbrown · 26/02/2024 16:08

The bride is very fancy. Huge cake huge hair huge crown huge dress dramatically dark tan and fierce exaggerated makeup. It’s a look for sure and it’s not just the cake.

That's brilliant 😁

Yes. Probably her dad. The lad asks the father's permission to date the daughter and then to marry her, it's all very traditional.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 26/02/2024 16:27

I prefer my cakes to be edible... But as long as they´re happy!

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 26/02/2024 16:28

I don’t think The Savoy would be used to this kind of tat

pontipinemum · 26/02/2024 16:34

That is insane! Also where is the actual cake part? The cake maker did do an amazing jobs but how do you get into the edible part?

But it is performative money spending. They have to be seen to spend an obscene amount.

Always in these weddings the bride is fake everything, done up to her nines, enormous tiara/crown, loo roll lady dress, and the groom looks like an Irish jockey who's never worn a suit before and is about to pass out.

Topofthemountain · 26/02/2024 16:46

The groom didn't look particularly impressed.

Don’t be such a crashing snob 😂. Trust me the Savoy doesn’t give a shit as long as the customer has plenty of money that they want to spend there.

Titsywoo · 26/02/2024 16:49

I'm very surprised the Savoy would accept a booking from travellers to be honest
