How do you work out which foods don’t agree with you?

Occasionally I have mild IBS symptoms and an eczema type rash on my face. I can’t work out what triggers it as sometimes I’m fine for ages. I don’t know if it’s possibly wheat or dairy as there doesn’t seem to be a pattern. I wonder how people work it out?

I stopped eating certain things for a week and then ate them again while keeping a diary of the symptoms on both eating and not eating certain foods until I narrowed it down to the ones which caused the problem.
I also recorded my menstrual cycle to see if particular foods gave me symptoms that didn't seem to affect me at other times.
You could try that.

@RhubarbGinForTheWin Can I ask what foods you found affected you?

I find that rich gravy, onions and some fast foods affect me. On the other hand, curry makes me constipated! It's all trial and error I'm afraid. If you find something that triggers you, make a note of it, leave it a while before having it again, then see how it affects you the next time. Sometimes it can be totally random, which is so irritating! I'm like that with spaghetti bolognese, sometimes it affects me, others it doesn't. You never know where you are. Wishing you luck 💐
