Interview Help- band 5 nurse CQC question

Hi!

I have an interview tomorrow morning for a band 5 mental health role, it is band 5 but a band 6 development role. I have been through so many things and feel very prepared but my friend who had an interview for the same job last year (but was unsuccessful) has just said they asked her a question about the CQC.

She can’t remember the exact question but it was something around quality and how I would demonstrate that to the CQC?

This has really thrown me as I haven’t looked into this at all. Has anyone got any pointers? I have had a look on the CQC website but can’t really see what they look for.

so far my thoughts are they’re going to look for good documentation, information in the staff room etc. but I’m panicking! Has anyone got any tips? Thanks so much, I am DESPERATE to leave my current role so really want to do well

I would guess it's about ensuring your training/ CPD is up to date, familiarising yourself with local authority and trust safeguarding policies (and following them) whether you know the structure of the organisation, who could you seek support from? Awareness of challenges such as bed shortages etc.

When there are issues identified is learning shared with the team during team meetings / daily huddles which you would take away to learn from and utilise to enhance your own practice.

Do you know NICE guidelines in relation to self harm pathways etc etc.

Basically as you are part of the organisation it is whether you have a good knowledge if CQC were to ever turn up

What's the role you're going for?
I think it might be useful to thunk about how you keep records, how you log your clinical decisions making, share risk etc.
Basically they want to know you'll be on board with inspections and not slag the service off!

RapidlyApproachingEndOfMyTether · 26/02/2024 19:07

Think about the areas in the inspection framework - off the top of my head I think it's safe, caring, effective and well led?
Then think of 1 or 2 examples of how you can contribute to each.
As it's a development role to b6 you could include some sort of audit or quality assurance focus to your answer.
(I'm not a MH nurse but I think the inspection framework areas are common across NHS services?)
Good luck

A lot of these ideas mentioned above also fit into the clinical governance topic so might be worth having a look at that too.

mizzastar · 26/02/2024 19:18

Cqc looks at
are they safe?
are they effective?
Are they caring?
Are they responsive?
are they well led?

so look at these and see what we do to prove these things - datix, audit, record keeping, organisation, friends and family feedback and acting on the responses. Governance, open and honest, duty of candor

good luck

Sorry had a really long week and forgot to respond. Thank you for all the responses, I got the job 🎉
