Do your teens/tweens actually post much on social media?

There seems to be a trend for social media as a whole not to be especially social these days, it's become more watching/seeing other people's content and making content for stuff like TikTok feels like a lot of effort. Also algorithms make it so popular content shows over friend's content, so it's not useful for that. Obviously, I'm an old person, but my 15yo doesn't really post much either, they just look at other stuff and comment on it, but although they are on Insta and TikTok they seldom post.

12yo DC has a mobile but mostly uses it for playing games, occasionally messaging friends on whatsapp. He doesn't have any interest in TikTok, Insta or Snapchat or whatever.

I'm interested in how other people's kids are using social media these days - are they interested in big 'influencer' types? Or more into niches? eg my teen is very into LGBTQ+ stuff, activism etc but no 'big names' on social media.

DS16 uses Snapchat a lot. Occasionally he posts on Insta and TikTok, never on Facebook. He's not interested in influencers but can find himself TikTok scrolling for long periods.

My oldest seem to spend very long scrolling - I think I'm more of a scroller than they are.

I don't think anyone under about 40 even starts using FB these days and I've given up on it because it hid all my contacts in reams and reams of algorithmic crap, which made it totally useless.

I have an 11 and 13 year old boys. Neither are interested in insta (they laughingly say this is for “old people”), don’t want Snapchat and haven’t shown any interest in TikTok. They both basically use their phones for messaging and going on YouTube. The younger one plays various Roblox games with friends and makes silly videos to send to friends. Doesn’t post anything online.
My 13 year old doesn’t really play games, he watches some videos on niche things like aeroplane reviews and other random stuff. He also makes his own videos and has his own channel but he’s not a prolific poster.

They both follow Mr Beast and other influencer types like that.

Yeah, DS watches YouTubes about facts about pokemon and Nintendo etc and did for a while watch some fairly annoying anodyne gaming YouTubers but no interest in engaging with apps.
