How to get stench out of second hand sofas?

Just bought two second hand sofas. They stink of animals, smoke and generally just not nice. Musty.

I've cleaned them with an industrial upholstery cleaner but they still absolutely reek!!!

Does anyone have any tips please?

Apparently vodka in a spray bottle neutralises odours.

Would Febreze work?

OP, no offence but why did you buy them?

We bought a used car any years ago, a merc c class from a main dealer over the phone - it had part leather seats - we were clear about, "no animals no smoking"

The car was delivered lovely, but as a couple of days passed my OH very sensitive nose could smell that the car had a smoker in it and a few days later I too noted it. Note it more as the car sat in the bright sun and as we go in a good hint of smoke smell, We told the dealer and they offered to clean it again - we said no, they offered a 200-pound discount we said not - we had that collected within the 14 day long distance selling etc and bought a brand-new pre reg car

What I'm trying to say is - if the sofa has fabric and not leather it will be almost impossible to get rid of the stench.

We sold some sofas - and described them in excellent condition from smoke-free, pet free home, first to see will buy - a man came and looked really happy paid the full price as helping out his daughter in her new flat - he commented that the few he had seen before looked ok/good I pics and they were but all stank. I'm not sure why people live like that.

Why not try to resell them even if its at a loss?

Professional carpet cleaners usually do upholstery too. For a sofa I can't see them charging more than £50 and it will get the smell out too.
