Why does it feel so good when you have been to the tip?!

I took a car full of stuff that had been piling up in the garden for months eg an old cupboard with drawers, a broken steam mop, a grotty washing basket, an old bin, some pots and pans amongst other things. I feel much better for having got rid of it. I’ve still got more rubbish and now I’m looking forward to going next week! Hopefully it will encourage me to get rid of more as the whole house needs a good sort out.

I'm having a sofa day but I love, love, love getting rid of junk!

howdyho · 25/02/2024 14:32

Love a trip to the recycling centre/tip!
So satisfying, must be to do with getting life a bit more sorted and letting go...😀

howdyho · 25/02/2024 14:33

Going to try a repair cafe next week with 3 items, that might feel even better!

AFreshCleanStart · 26/02/2024 07:09

That's my plan for today. It always feels so freeing, I love it!

Wishthiswasntthecase · 26/02/2024 07:12

Did 3 visits yesterday. Clearing my parents garage. It’s never ending

LipstickLil · 26/02/2024 07:13

It's very cathartic dumping stuff! You feel cleansed, fresh and new Grin

Taylormiffed · 26/02/2024 07:15

Our tip is great. So much is sorted and recycled. Funnily enough I was there on Friday and thought I'd love to work there for a few days (in nice weather obviously).

I had some stuff for the charity shop last week, they had a sign up saying no donations, so I took it to the tip. Glad to get rid, but a shame it wasn’t to the shop.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 26/02/2024 07:21

I love getting rid of stuff at the tip. Cleansing, calming, freeing. Yesterday my adult son arrived home with a load of his stuff to store here, because he will be moving over the summer, and it gave me all the opposite feelings: stressed, crowded, confined, etc.
I often have 'stuff' dreams, where I am having to pack massive amounts of belongings in order to get to the airport on time at the end of a holiday. Really anxious and stressful. Getting control of 'stuff' obviously represents something very powerful in our unconscious.

Yes! I've been clearing my allotment, old garden waste, bits of old branches and non recyclable plastics. Love it looking so tidy

BarrelOfOtters · 26/02/2024 08:27

I love a tip/charity shop run….going to clear out the garage as soon as it stops being so blooming cold.

also need to clear out my wardrobe….rainy day job.

susiedaisy1912 · 26/02/2024 08:30

I get positively giddy at the thought of if a tip run, I love decluttering.

Nonewclothes2024 · 26/02/2024 08:34

Love a trip to the tip.

Londonscallingme · 26/02/2024 08:37

I agree, it’s amazing. Makes me wonder why we buy so much ‘stuff’ when getting rid of it makes us so happy.

Minnimoomin · 26/02/2024 08:50

Yes! At our recycling centre you drive onto a kind of bridge structure and throw your stuff into marked bays (garden waste, cardboard, etc) down to one side. Very satisfying hurling stuff over the edge.

BeautifulThings01 · 26/02/2024 08:51

Oh I’ve got an adult child’s stuff cluttering the place too. And a loft full of I don’t know what. I’m thinking of moving just so I have to get rid of it!

Invigorating.

My old tatty sofa went off Smugglers Way last week - I feel 10 years younger!

When we moved from the UK to France we hired a specific volume of space on the removal lorry so had to get everything into that volume. I spent the summer, as I was recovering from an op and was made redundant so had 4 months of gentle decluttering and it was marvellous.

We sold some items to the new tenants of our house as we were renting it out, so that saved more space and saved me having to dismantle beds, wardrobes and huge oak tables.

I filled the black bin every week with stuff that wasn't able to be recycled, we tipped stuff every week and I went through all my old uni files, and work files, and house bills and paperwork to shred it and used it to pack and protect all the delicate stuff that we took, and then it all went into the compost bin when we got here.

And we moved into a house that was twice the floor space so I now have a lovely uncluttered house, and no old shite that I'd just kept hold of for no reason.

All the boxes were used to cover garden areas to kill off any weeds, and to prepare the space for food growing.

It felt so good to clear it all out. And only keep the precious things.
