Explain this delivery

I was looking for a craft item on Amazon and on eBay. I found it on both sites but it was cheeper on eBay so I ordered it there.

The item arrived yesterday in an Amazon box despite not ordering it from Amazon.

I got an email from eBay today saying my item has been dispatched.

I've checked my Amazon orders and it's definitely not on there. My bank app says money has come out for the eBay item.

Looks like I'll end up with 2 and only paid for 1. I definitely don't want 2.

What on earth happened?

Did eBay seller maybe just use an Amazon box to send it in?

Branster · 25/02/2024 10:29

You bought from and paid eBay
The seller used Amazon dispatch delivery service

You will not be charged again by Amazon because you did not place an order with Amazon. A payment to Amazon would show on your banking app under pending payments as soon as you placed the order.

I suspect the seller has 2 shops for the same stock (an ebay shop and an amazon marketplace shop)
The price is lower on their ebay shop because ebay seller fees are lower with ebay than with amazon. But, essentially, the seller makes the same profit.

That's what I make of it.

Possibly but the dispatch email only came today from eBay to say it was dispatch whereas the parcel arrived yesterday

The ebay seller has just used an amazon box? You will probably just get the one item?

That's even more likely to have happened!
I didn't think of that 😂

Bondibeechtree · 25/02/2024 10:37

But the dispatch email has only just come from eBay.

Yes, I've had this a few times. Amazon shipped the order quicker than the ebay seller expected.
You won't recieve 2 items.

BoohooWoohoo · 25/02/2024 10:42

EBay seller ordered your item from Amazon to be delivered to you because it’s presumably less than the price that you paid the eBay seller.

Ebay are pretty slow with updates where as Amazon are the opposite ime

But the dispatch email has only just come from eBay.

On ebay, when you sell something you have the option to buy a delivery service through evay. This generates a dispatch email with a tracking code instantly.
You may not actually post the item for a few hours/days.

However, the seller can use their own delivery service. For example, go to the post office and physically but a stamp and send the package over the counter. In this instance, the seller goes back to ebay and marks the item ad dispatched which generates a dispatch email. The seller can do this whenever they remember, which may well a few days after the trip to the post office.

Basically the dispatch email doesn't mean anything unknown there is a tracking number you can follow. Tracking number would show under your purchase on ebay

Branster · 25/02/2024 10:46

Unless not unknown

TabithaTwitchel · 25/02/2024 10:47

There are many eBay sellers doing this 3rd party selling thing. I forget what it's called but eBay do not allow it. It's a form of drop shipping

You buy from eBay. The seller buys it from Amazon and you pay a higher price. (Usually but not always)

Hence why some sellers on eBay have an infinite amount of something to flog

chattyness · 25/02/2024 10:48

this has happened to us, often the seller also sells from amazon and just ships from there

Thanks guys. I think you solved it as the tracking says delivered yesterday. If they had free delivery with prime it would have been cheaper for them to do it that way. It was more expensive for me as I don't have free Amazon delivery/prime.
