Anyone suspicious of PayPal tonight?

I tried to pay for an M&S order. It came up with a box 'We're looking out for you. There has been suspicious activity on your account. Please create a new password for PayPal.'

The screen has no explanation, no indication it knows who I am, I have had no email/text and I've checked the bank account and there's nothing suspicious on there.

Have they been hacked?

(There's no way to phone them and to contact them you have to get into your account which, as per above, I can't do unless I'm willing to change my password and I'm not.)

if you create a new password please go to the site directly. Preferably from a different device. When did you last do an antivirus scan?

You need to go direct to paypal.com/signin OP - this sounds like a scam designed to capture your username/password, but hopefully you can still log in with the actual site?

IP login from a different device and check your PayPal account.
Sounds like something on the computer or you've gone to a non genuine M&S site

I've no reason to doubt the M&S site but I'll check through the website and another device. Thank you.

Last night, no virus or malware on a scan. No suspicious activity on the bank account.

I've managed to get them on the phone today and they can't see any reason why I would get that message. So although they suggested a few things like clearing the cache I've gone for the nuclear option. While they were on the phone I got them to close the account (I couldn't do it myself because of the message) and I'll create a new one.

Thank you for your suggestions.
