Place near Brighton

I've left it way too late to book a hotel for the Brighton marathon but DD has managed to get a place and we want to go and cheer her on.

What's the best town to stay nearby that's not going to be £400 a night 😬.

Happy to drive up to about an hour on the Sunday to get into Brighton but can't afford the prices to stay there the night before.

Thanks to anyone who has any suggestions, we live 3 hours away so even being 2 hours closer is better.

How about Worthing and then just take the train/bus there in the morning? I wouldn't think that parking in Brighton during the marathon would be fun.

Lewes/ Eastbourne/worthing? Then you could catch the train in to avoid parking. Or park for free at the park and ride in westdene and catch the bus down (£2 each way.)

Depending which direction you’re coming from, Haywards Heath premier inn has a few rooms. Lots of trains south to Brighton, some only 15-20 minutes . Agree with pp probably better not to drive. Or possibly Polegate but not as many trains

There are no trains on the London line tomorrow I'm sure so it's a bus replacement from Haywards Heath

There is premier inn in Lewes or near Uckfield. Would suggest either parking at Marina or train from Lewes into Brighton. Parking there is a nightmare at best of times.

Worthing then get the bus from the seafront, number 700 into Brighton

clarepetal · 24/02/2024 17:39

Pretty sure there is a Premier Inn at Worthing too

There’s lots of reasonable priced hotels near Gatwick.

TempleOfBloom · 24/02/2024 18:24

Travelodge in Worthing.

Definitely somewhere where you can take the bus or train into Brighton. Parking in Brighton is (by deliberate design) impossible at the best of times.

They are running the trains via Horsham instead tomorrow to Brighton.

Thank you I'll check these out. Worthing is pretty expensive too for then, it's in April.

Haywards Heath (15 mins by train) or the area around Gatwick airport (30 minutes by train). Eastbourne is also about 30 minutes by train. There are buses from Brighton to Uckfield and Tunbridge Wells which probably take about an hour.

A few of the farms on Firle Estate do holiday let cottages. Worth a try?

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 25/02/2024 00:46

Premier Inn at Haywards Heath. Catch the train to Brighton.
