Murphy bed or top quality sofa bed?

For occasional use, in our downstairs office. Mainly to be used by our adult children and partners and occasionally by fussy friends who are never happy with the sleeping arrangements (except we once had a tatty old mattress on the floor which was praised). Maybe once or twice a month at most.

DH favours a top quality sofa bed. I say they don’t exist, a sofa bed is always a compromise. It will be too small and it will sag in the middle.
I’ve never tried a Murphy bed but it looks
like you get a proper sturdy bed base.

Any recommendations please?

How often will the sofa actually be used as a sofa? It’s a lot of wasted floor space if it’s only ever going to be used as a bed - but probably cheaper than a Murphy bed, decent ones are pricey.

The Ikea Hemnes sofa bed is comfortable as a bed and is properly slatted so won’t sag; but it needs a lot of throw cushions to make it comfortable as seating.

We have a Murphy bed (I think! The ones that pull down from the wall?) which has been great. We just bought the mechanisms and base and then DH built a cupboard round it and fold out tall ikea doors in front . Good quality mattress. Very comfy. He made the cupboard slightly bigger than the bed so then we could put tall slim bookcase each side for storage Also made sure there was a power socket behind the head of the bed for phone charging and reading light. Most common guests are parents in their late 70s and didn’t want to put them on a sofa bed.

Thanks! I think it would rarely be used as a sofa so maybe the Murphy bed is the way to go.
It’s about an hour to IKEA but I’ll try out the Hemnes sofa bed too
