Weirdest thing to ever happen to you?

I find myself thinking back to a time when I was a young child, maybe 8ish years old. I was out riding on my bike on our street and I went up into a small cul de sac where there was about 2 houses at the top end. I’d ride there regularly and have never seen anyone around before, I thought it was old people living there it was so quiet.

anyway, this day I rode up there as usual and a man (youngish, ginger, rough/unshaven) came out of one of the houses and started aggressively walking towards me, I immediately felt scared so I started to ride off and he ran after me! He chased me down the cul de sac and he must have given up at the end of the road as when I turned the corner and looked behind me he wasn’t there. thankfully I lived just round the corner a few houses down so I dropped my bike on the driveway and ran into my house.

I never told my parents because I was scared I would get in trouble, I was always told never to go further than just the end of the road, and I assume going up into the cul de sac at the end of the road was too far. So I didn’t want to get told off so I never said anything.

I still wonder to this day what might have happened. Was he just going to give me a bollocking for riding my bike in the cul de sac? Or was he an inspiring child murderer?! It’s hands down the weirdest thing that ever happened to me.

So what’s the weirdest thing that happened to you?

How is that weird, you rode your bike and someone came out and chased you away and you never rode there again. Job done by the sounds of it. just like I got told off by a man outside Homebase when I was a teen because I scuffed my shoes along part of a wall he'd just fixed with and the concrete was still wet. Memorable yes word nope

SpectacledBear · 24/02/2024 13:35

Who pissed on your chips @ChooseYourOwnHistory ?

I had a whole day full of coincidences - I’d think of a song and it would be the next one played on the radio, but for several songs. I randomly thought of 5 or 6 people - they entered my mind for no particular reason - then bumped into them within a few minutes (one I had only sporadic online contact with as she lives a few hours drive away - she was on holiday, I bumped into her outside Boots in my nearest town).
Once home I was thinking about a particular book, and it fell off the bookshelf as I was going to find it.
All very odd. I went to bed wondering if I was god. Sadly all back to normal the next day.

@ChooseYourOwnHistory I suppose the weirdness is that I was alone, riding my bike quietly to myself up and down a road, not even the pavement outside their house, just the road.. and was then chased by an adult man. - if you don’t think prepubescent girls being chased after by adult men on a quiet road is odd then you’re either a serious optimist, or really thick?

@SpectacledBear oh that’s definitely odd! Sounds like a fun day though. The song thing reminds me of a funny phase I went through years ago, where I would go to look at the time while having in mind it’s got to be roughly ‘2.50’ or ‘12.15’ ect, and it would always end up being the exact time I had in my head, down to the minute. I thought for a while I must have some sort of psychic ability.. but the back didn’t stay and I couldn’t tell you if it was day or night these days 😂

@HeadsShouldersTitsandArse

I have had quite a lot of very weird experiences

Visting a healthspa relaxing in my sauna a guy of mature years silver hair,
just randomly mentioned he and his wife were into " swinging and if i fancied joining them purely cause of the curiosity novelty factor that i come from a different culture"
than them,

visting spiritual circle doing mediation and pschomentry having surreal experinces ,

Also having spiritual psychic messages etc,

Also going to a art gallery locally and attending their own arts session doing a art session of a beach image,
when i took my painting home i had done,
I had turned it upside down and i could see a silhouette image of myself too,

The day my nan died a certain song played on the radio in the car on the way home . The day of her funeral the same song played as we were driving behind the hearse . The day we scattered her ashes we got back in the car and the song played again .

The day my grandad died - unexpectedly- the night before I had a dream and all that was in that dream was my grandad laughing . Just like a montage of him laughing .

I've had so many weird things happen to me i'd be here all night typing them all. Which is probably weird in itself!
80% of them would fall into the category of woo - but not all.

One which isn't woo, but was a purely physical reaction to panic, is that aged about 10 i was chased by a pack of (snarling) dogs and managed to not only outrun them but jumped clean over a 5 foot brick wall barely touching it to get away from them.

Where do I start.
I've had so many weird things happen to me.

I went on a coach trip once years ago with DM, and we were walking around a picturesque touristy town that we'd never been to before. She said we needed to make sure we weren't late back for the coach and looked at her watch. It had stopped. So had mine. I immediately said wait a moment, and walked into the nearest shop and looked at the clock on the wall, checked the time and walked out again. It then dawned on me - how did I know there was a clock on the wall in that shop, and exactly where on the wall to find it?

I had 'known' where it was. But how? I'd never been to that shop or even that town before in my life.

AceofPentacles · 18/06/2024 21:57

Not the weirdest but

When I was 13 and hanging out with friends at the park a rough sleeper approached me and said he could read my palm. I said ok then. He began by saying that he could see I had been to a famous hospital as a child due to burns... I had indeed been admitted to stoke Mandeville as a toddler after being burned by hot soup. I left pretty quickly before he said anything else!

MooonDreamer · 18/06/2024 21:59

@Laiste Where did the dogs come from? How do you know it was five foot! Maybe it seemed taller as you were small?

MissingMoominMamma · 18/06/2024 22:10

I tried to light a candle, but the match sparked and went out. At the same time, the ceiling light also went out.

It was a weird coincidence and I felt a bit unsettled.

About an hour later, I got a phone call to say someone very close to me had been admitted to hospital with a brain aneurysm. They had collapsed around the time that the candle and the light had gone out.

It was West London in the 80s and there was a bit of a stray dog problem. (strays weren't unusual back then but they were friendly or just ignored you) On this occasion 4 or 5 had started running together and were getting aggressive.

I was coming home from the park and had taken a short cut though some back ally ways and looked behind me to see these dogs following me with their heads lowered ears back ect. Grew up with my own dogs so not too scared but upped my pace, looked back again and they were baring their teeth so i started to leg it!

Ran to my house round the block with them behind me and jumped our front wall. Shot up the path. Banged on front door with my back to it as biggest dog started coming over. My dad opened the door and i fell backwards in through it. Dad got hold of something and started yelling at the dogs and they went away.

I know how high the wall was cos i lived there till i was 19 and it came up to about my shoulder height 😊

When I was in my early 20’s and living in London I went to Knightsbridge, planning to window shop at Harrods and Harvey Nichols. As I walked towards Harvey Nichols I saw a person dressed in a bear suit, talking to people on my side of the road. I crossed the road to avoid them and ducked into Harvey Nichols, I got into the lift and as the door closed someone outside pressed the button and they opened again - it was the bear! They got in with me and as the lift rose they bent down and kissed my nose. At the first floor I got out of the lift and wondered what the hell had happened.

When I was 12 in 1962, I saw a UFO. Looking out of my bedroom window. I ran down, told my (late) parents, who got the neighbours out. It was the classic silver cigar shape, going very fast. I lived in a village in west Sussex. I later found out that there was a lot of sightings reported around Devils Dyke, near Brighton.

Beautifulbythebay · 18/06/2024 22:39

Saw a religious man perform medical procedures on a platform at a religious retreat in Brazil.
Many years later saw the same man on TV having been charged with sexual assaults on many women who had visited there.. Thankfully not me or the relative I went with.. Still bizarre the whole place..

My great nan and I were sat in her living room just catching up with each other. She lived alone after my grandad died and I'd often pop in on my way home from college. I was a teen and she was in her 80's at the time. All of a sudden I got a strong scent of rose, so strong I remember my eyes watering. My nan smelled it strongly at exactly the same moment. No windows were open, nobody else in the house and neither of us were wearing perfume literally just sat facing each other sat next to each other. My nan passed away 8 years ago now and I've randomly smelled it again a couple of times but not quite as strong. Always been when I'm doing something else and not thinking of her.

blameitonthesunshine · 18/06/2024 22:45

@HeadsShouldersTitsandArse you didn't live in a town beginning with U did you 😂.

Me and my friends used to get chased by a young unshaven ginger haired man frequently aged 8/9 on our bikes.

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 18/06/2024 22:51

I dreamt about my grandfather who had died about 8 years previously. I rarely remember my dream and told DH about it. We went downstairs and all the cups and saucers I had inherited from him were smashed on the floor.

When I first left home I lived with a man who was estranged from his mum and hadn't spoken to her for about 3 years. One day the phone rang and he said oh that's my Mum I just know it. And it was. She was phoning as his sister was ill. He said he just knew. (This was pre mobiles - obviously the only people who ever ring on landlines, not that we have one now, are parents 😂)

Nannyfannybanny · 19/06/2024 07:50

My late DM and I always seem to know when the other was ringing..we moved into a new property in the early 80s,there was no phone line, had to wait for installation. Used to walk to the phone box in the next road. As a child, I was in a fire, she saved my life. I never talk about it
My ex H, just knew that
He came home from a night shift, put the frying pan on, and forgot it! Went into the shower, this was 6.30,kids and I all fast asleep. Good quality doors, (private builder) luckily kitchen door was closed. Dog scraping at the bathroom door, alerted him. I said I didn't want my DM to know. My parents lived quite a way away never came up on spec. While we're cleaning up the mess I think the place was a few months old,my parents turned up on the doorstep. DM smelt smoke, made my DF drive up to check on me!

Echobelly · 19/06/2024 08:35

After A-levels some mates and I went on a long weekend to Norfolk and one evening they went to the pub (with the driver staying sober) but I had a terrible headache and decided to stay at the cottage. As they left, I suddenly had a really strong feeling I'd be glad I didn't go with them.

They didn't come back until about midnight, which was oddly late, and as they came in I heard one of my friends sobbing. Turned out some local lads obviously thought it would be 'hilarious' to tail them in their car when they left the pub, chase them down country roads for nearly an hour and into a dead end where they revved their engine at them and generally made like they were going to attack them, before driving off. It was so weird because, as I said, I had a distinct feeling someone bad was going to happen.
