Blackpool - off the beaten track suggestions?

I'm in Blackpool for the day and not keen on rollercoasters etc (and have no kids with me!) - any suggestions for nice cafes/shops/walks/galleries/cinemas etc? I've found the Grundy art gallery on google but would love more ideas!

Lytham Hall is nice to have a ramble round.

Theres a horse sanctuary sort of outside of Blackpool called Penny farm that you can have a pootle round and see the horses.

Thornton Clevelys beach front is lovely and has some arty bits on the beach.

Maddisons in Bispham is a fabulous cafe, and does amazing food.

Stanley park has a lovely cafe that does a cream tea and you can then have a wonder round the park, feed the ducks etc.

The zoo is also nice for a wander round, probably wouldn’t eat there though.

Oh the new food market in Central Blackpool is brilliant for a bite to eat, tables are a bit sticky but what can you do.

Tea Amantes on Albert Road in the centre is quite nice - tea shop and gallery

We like the Adventure Lab app (it’s free) and there are quite a few adventures round Blackpool including Stanley Park and in Lytham. They’re a good way of getting a walk in whilst learning a bit about the area.

You could go in the ballroom in the tower- nice space and a nice afternoon tea. There are always dancers to watch.

Or the Grand theatre is beautiful if there is something on you fancy. They do backstage tours too if that’s your sort of thing.

Personally I’d get hot fresh doughnuts and go down the old pier to sit and watch the sea for a while and read- but then I like wind and grey expanse.

Lowgogrow · 24/02/2024 11:30

Oh these are brilliant thank you! Have brightened my day. Definitely going to check out the food market, might get a tram (?) to Thornton Cleveleys too...

I fancy your reading by the old Pier idea @Theresstilltonighttocome - where is the old pier? (Right or left from the new one?)

And has anyone been to Grundy's? Worth a visit?

Take a walk along the beach to St. Annes and then onto Lytham if you’re feeling energetic. The stretch from Fairhaven to Lytham is newly paved and easy going. You can bus back to Blackpool (68 I think?). Couple of pleasant beach/lake cafes on the way.
Weather’s looking good: have a lovely day!

LakeTiticaca · 24/02/2024 11:33

Hop on the tram up to Fleetwood and have a walk round? I think you can get a day ticket so you can hop on and off

Fuckingfuckssake · 24/02/2024 11:41

Grundy is good but pretty small, half an hour will do it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/02/2024 12:46

Those suggestion Cleveleys, why? Really not much there, the town’s miserable.
If you want to see a Film, Pleasure Island cinema in St. Annes is really good value. Fish and chips afterwards at Seafarers.

It’s called the north pier- the furthest to the right if you’re looking at the sea. It’s usually less crowded/noisey/flashing light infested.

@BluesandClues thanks for the tip about Penny Farm horse sanctuary. We were up today visiting in-laws so took them here and we all loved it!

Marlosstash · 25/02/2024 15:41

I’d take the nearest road out of the dump if I were you. It’s a horrible rough place and even more bleak at this time of year.
