Hi,
My 3yr old is a terrible sleeper, for the past 6 months ish, they wake multiple times a night, for various reasons at different times.
I can’t pin point an exact reason. They’ve gone through lots of change during that time, removal of dummy, big kid bed, new room, finding out going to have a sibling but all spaced apart and always given enough time before moving onto a new thing.
They’ve also started becoming dry of a night and using the toilet, so there’s another wake up reason.
They’ve woken tonight after being asleep for 2 hours, thrown every reason out there as to why. They’ve fallen back asleep about 3 times during this period and woken again crying and then got out of bed, I’ve tried with so much patience, but their behaviour absolutely erupted into a mega melt down (our poor neighbours).
I don’t know what to do anymore, I tried sleep training around Christmas, it got briefly better (still one wake up) but didn’t last. The only time they have slept through in the past 6 months is when they’ve been unwell.
they can have a lovely active day, good food and a good bedtime and still wake throughout the night. I don’t understand how they can be sleep one minute and then awake the next, they are shattered as elll during that time.
What do I do ? I’m expecting baby number 2 in less than 10 weeks. I’ve always looked for strategies etc during the past 3 years but at a point where I can’t figure anything out, it’s getting worse and I can’t cope with the thought of breastfeeding a baby and navigating my 3yo sleep problems. It’s awful aswell because they feel rubbish for the lack of sleep and can really affect their mood.
Even if the wakes up are development and due to change, how can a human be fast asleep, then awake, then fall asleep again then and with 10 mins, there must surely be something waking them up ?
