Am I overreacting? Aupair

My friend is having trouble getting an aupair due to the lack of visas for the EU. She is considering offering the “job” to a girl from an EU country on the condition that she stays here for 5 months as a tourist. My friend is a single mother and she is desperate to sort out her childcare.

This girl is from my home country and my friend has asked me to take part in a Zoom call with her so as to explain in our language what the conditions are to avoid any misunderstanding.

I have said that I can’t do it as in my view what she is planning is not legal.

Have I overreacted? She went very quiet and has been avoiding me since.

YANBU, that is illegal she can't exploit someone to suit her needs, if she can't afford an au pair that's not the au pairs problem!

YANBU.
Maybe she realised you were right, and she’s embarrassed, so that’s why she’s avoiding you?

Refusing to participate in something that makes you uncomfortable, that you believe to be wrong, is not overreacting.
