I see people posting for support or advice. Some threads will be sensitive. Or the op is in a bad place.

Rather than support most of the replies I see, seem to be trying to catch op out . Dismiss their feelings, impy what they're saying can't possibly be the truth. People don't seem to take op at face value.

@PianPianPiano Yes I know that. My point is MN has no USP anymore.

I will come back tomorrow, as off out now for dinner. No food, wine or conversation will have any commercial links to MN. The mindfulness stuff I have picked up over the years will be there though.

As i say, MN is probably at a fork in the road.

There’s plenty of good advice and support as well as snark. Plus it makes me laugh quite often.

I've found that it's thread after thread posted by people in bad relationships. They are often found in AIBU, but are relationships threads none the less.

I find it quite draining and depressing tbh. I don't particularly want to be faceless counsel to strangers but this is what the site has become now.

Mostly bad relationships and political arguments (Israel/Palestine) and tit for tatting over Harry & Meghan.

It feels like the fun stuff has long disappeared.

I know. I just wanted to start the discussion about the USP from the basics. I think it is important.

Be back tomorrow. There is much more value in the brand, but its floundering.

It's a place where phrases like "Grinds my gears", "Boils my piss" and the most awful "Use your words" are heard. Here and nowhere else.

My point was, you don't have to click on an ad for it to work. MN will be paid by ads shown to unique users, not ads clicked on.

I mean it is a massively popular chat site.
But everyone posts anonymously and there are hundreds of thousands of people using it every day - millions every month. With that comes the fact there will be all sorts of people on here.

I don't know which topics you are looking at, but there is masses of support and masses of advice on here.
Yes, if people want a more robust discussion, they can go on AIBU - but if that isn't for you, you can hide that. I've got quite a few topics hidden, that are of no interest to me.
There's loads of good advice and information shred on here on a daily basis.
There is a huge amount of kindness, there's practicality, there's discussion, disagreement, challenging of what people have posted, there's load of laughter.
Perhaps you need to look harder.

What nonsense. Why do you think the affluent people who can afford to subscribe are inherently ‘nicer’ and will offer what you call ‘genuine’ ( how is that defined) support?

Also, your sneering at women stressed at carrying the mental load only deserving of the ‘basic’ support level, would rather make me think you should be banned from the alleged ‘genuine’ support part. You clearly aren’t decent enough to be there.

The great thi g about MN is that it is free and every from all walks of life, regardless of income or age or politics meet as equals, on equal terms.

How does it make money? I have seen no evidence of that.

Why do you think it exists? You know there are people who's job is to make this place run sort of smoothly? How do you think they're paid?

There are a lot of trolls, a lot of tra's, men's rights activists, it must be a target for Chinese/Russian propaganda (all those strange Kate threads), plus exhausted women just trying to do their best and have 5 mins of mindless scrolling. That's a pretty full on mix, with no way to verify who is genuine and who is just stirring.

You don't see all the advertisements? It's not difficult to see how MN makes money.
