In our bathroom the top rung of the towel radiator is reserved for the hand towel, it always looked nice when I folded and hung it but no one else could do it properly and the untidiness was driving me crazy. Measured the width of the towel radiator and discovered 'guest towels' fit perfectly with no need for any folding at all

I bought a pack of plain black / grey / cream zippy cotton canvas bags - sort of make up bag size (20cm x 10cm).
I labelled them all with iron on vinyl (but you could prob use a sharpie on the cream ones), and now i have 4 or 5 in my handbag.....
Feel Fresh = tissues, hand sanitiser, wipes, sanpro etc
Feel Better = painkillers, allergy tabs, plasters, small savlon etc
Charge Me = Various charging cables, 1 plug, charging bank
Make a note = pens, notepad, plectrums (don't ask - they're for DP!)

Means I'm not scrabbling through a bag of random bits every time I need something, plus if i want to change over to a different bag it's super easy!

Could you please say what brand/shop you found these? Or even better, post a link? This is brilliant!

I do similar when travelling for the bag I take on the plane, but use clear zip up bags so you can see what's in there - like this - and also keep another set in the car (throw back to when I spent a lot of time on the road with work).
Obviously they are too big for a regular handbag, another one who would like to know where you get your bags from please !

The Lakeland plastic zippered
Laundry holders for bras and delicates. So brilliant to be able to put these in a gentle wash.

Except that they get lost in the house!

Three season duvet - game changer

I use an ikea nejlika pillowcase for v pillows to wash bras and delicates because I got fed up of chasing the bra pods round the house.

I hang a pillowcase on a command hook beside the laundry basket and pop the bras in it then before I wash tie a knot in the neck.

I can get about seven days worth of bras and knickers plus the odd slip or scarf in a pillowcase and then I pop the whole thing in a quick delicates cycle.

The pillowcase then goes back on the hook to dry. I have one for darks and one for lights.

My dad's spider removing trick, harmless to spider and easy

Empty kitchen roll tube. Stuff one end with kitchen/loo roll or a tissue.
Place near spider. Use phone/torch to shine light on spider, which it will hate and run into tube for the darkness.
Stuff more tissue into other end of tube to contain arachnid so no fear of escape (or you can use cardboard etc), take outside and shake it out.

Works like a dream.

This thread is pure gold.

Ihaveamagicwand · 14/03/2024 16:44

Sorry if this has already been suggested, these are great threads but I HRFT yet, working my way through slowly.

I signed up for marketing emails from an online greetings card company including about their special offers. When they have a good one I go through my family birthdays and anniversaries and make a bulk order to take me through the year. I always include a few spares just in case.

When they arrive I put them in date order and write who they are for on the sticky label - delivered to the door, no excess packaging, great quality and hopefully no last minute racing around. Makes life easier and quite a bit cheaper.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 14/03/2024 16:56

This is too good to just keep to myself.

I had been pondering how on earth did I come to the conclusion to use the product like that.

Anyway: removing sticky residue from labels

Just any dry oil moisturiser that you may have lurking around your home. Yes, I am talking about the ones you apply on your skin.

Apply on the residue and take a cotton ball, toilet paper or microfibre cloth and scrub.

It will go away before your eyes. However, you have to change the paper frequently as otherwise the residue will spread.

And I remembered my story. A while ago I read that you need oil to remove sticky residue but I soon came to realise that normal oil did not work for me and made an even bigger mess. So I had a bottle of dry oil from Avon lurking in the cupboard that smelt past its best and I had a lightbulb moment.

I don’t buy goo gone anymore because of my trick. It’s cheaper and kinder to my skin 😉.

Yet more things we've done to make life easier
LoctiteStuck · 14/03/2024 18:43

best thing to remove sticky residue or to clean things before applying command strips is rubbing alcohol on a cotton wool pad.

It's amazing stuff.

I use one that is 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol | Isopropanol 99.9

We used to use lighter fluid works a treat. I don’t think you can buy it any more though.

Yes, I found the same, but was very irritated to find that John Lewis seem to be discontinuing the guest towels in most ranges now, including the one I have. To add insult to injury they've also discontinued my colour.

It's as cheap as chips on eBay. It used to be sold at the fag counter in supermarkets but they've stopped selling it now.
