Aspartame in medication

Yesterday we found out that prescription B12 tablets have aspartame as an added ingredient.
The type bought in a pharmacy don't contain aspartame.
The doctors cannot prescribe the one from the pharmacy because it is classed as a food supplement
Both B12 have the same dosage levels.
The end user has an intolerance to aspartame so has to buy their tablets rather than having the free prescription that they qualify for due to age.
