Feeling very unwell after exercising but able to do workout no problem?

Has anyone else experienced this?
I have admittedly fallen off exercise regime for around 5 months due to a nasty virus/Xmas and then my mum dying.
This week decided to get back on track so have done what I would have classed as easy workout before - just a 20 minute cardio Pilates with hand weights. Each time I have done it (3 x this week), I have felt fine doing it - not breathless, no muscle fatigue but then around 20 mins after stopping, I start feeling really breathless and heavy chested and start coughing and all energy just saps out of me, I go shaky/dizzy.

Has anyone else had this? I understand that my fitness levels are below par at the moment but it seems crazy that I can do the workout fairly easily but then feel really ill after it is over. Yesterday I felt shattered all day and just “off” such that I’ve not done it all this morning.

Have I just started back on it too aggressively or could something be wrong with me?

Go to the Drs.

Well I wish I could get an appointment! I called yesterday and was told no appointments available for 3 weeks and then have to call in on the morning to see if a slot available.
I had this at latter end of last year when I had a cough for 8 weeks after a virus and couldn’t get to see a doctor. I ended up sorting it myself with nasal lavage.

Maybe something to do with what you've eaten/swings in blood sugar?

Salt levels low?

A while back when I was on a clean living kick, if I did an intense workout, I'd sweat out too much salt. No breathing issues, but I'd feel extremely faint, shaky and weak after I'd finished. I was fine whilst exercising.

No food before - I work out around 6am and have no appetite then so it could be a low sugar issue I suppose. But never had any problems before. It's crazy to me how fast I have lost my fitness - decades of working out then 5 months off and I'm below square one.

Try 111 or a walk in. These symptoms could be cardiac and you want to rule that out ASAP. They could also be respiratory, post viral or other things but I'd check to be sure as soon as possible.

Hi @JMAngel1 hope you are feeling better now. Did you ever find out what this was? I think I have been experiencing a similar issue. I’ve asked a Doctor, a nutritionalist and a personal trainer but none of them had a clue what I was talking about.

I'd see a doctor and scale back the workout

It's clearly too much
