What is with all the worms?!

I've driven my son to school today for the first time in a while, we usually walk as we live quite close. The leisure centre car park (where most parents park to walk into school next door) is absolutely covered in thousands of squished worms! The paths are clear of worms, they're just on the car park. Sorry for the photo but it's something I don't think I've ever seen before!

Are you sure that's not sport-sock fluff?

DorothyZ · 22/02/2024 08:52

Can't see any worms

Itscatsallthewaydown · 22/02/2024 08:52

Heavy rain drives them out of the soil

If it is worms, they come up when the ground is saturated. It has been very wet lately.

GoldDuster · 22/02/2024 08:54

They're trying not to drown

Cuppachuchu · 22/02/2024 08:54

That's nothing, there's squashed frogs all over the road here, big ones. 🐸

I noticed loads of worms on the paving slabs and around plant pots when I was out in the garden yesterday. The ground is quite boggy at the moment so must be to do with that.

It's definitely not sock fluff, the entire car park is covered!

You might have to zoom in, uploading it on here has destroyed the quality of the pic. They're all the wiggly white things on the ground
