Has anyone got kids that play rugby - sports tape question

DS needs some tape for his ankle. I thought it would be a case of buying off Amazon but there is loads and loads of different colours. Some of the tapes have a different colour under, ie I’ve seen tan tape with white underneath. Can anyone help and tell me what to buy?

Do you just mean to hold his socks / shin pads in place? If so, you just need electrical tape in whatever colour matches his kit.

It’s ankle support tape he needs.

I believe he needs kinesiology tape. It allows for full flexibility while supporting the joint.

Google Kinetic tape. It's stretchy so we use it a lot for sport. Can sometimes cause a bit of a reaction and isn't always the easiest to get off, but ankles should be ok. Round the corners off with scissors so it doesn't peel. The different colours don't mean anything, just choose what you like. My DS used to have his back taped up by the chiro and that's what they used.

Sport specific zinc oxide tape

Thank you. Does the tape go straight onto the skin or is there something in between skin and the tape?

It does depend on how much support is needed. K tape is much more flexible and better for lighter support Vs zinc oxide tape which is more rigid and better for stability

Yep kinetic tape, make sure you watch a few videos on how to apply correctly for the ankle. No use if it’s not taped in the right way. DS had several dislocated shoulders from rugby so needed taping every match.

There is a place for Kinesiotape - but please see a Physiotherapist. Applying random scraps of tape won't fix the underlying issue, & won't do anything other than maybe placebo.
