Can anyone please help me find the curtains of my dreams? 😭

I ordered some 'safe' ones and hate them.

My dream is deep dark pink, magenta, velvet

That are

90x90 inches
Pleat topped (not tabs or eyelet)
Blackout.

Or just something that will pop against olive walls

Can anyone please help me find the curtains of my dreams? 😭

What didn’t you like about the safe ones? Do you want patterned perhaps?

I ordered natural linen on the advice of someone with very different taste to mine. I was trying to make it bright but after putting them up it's just so boring.

I like deep dark contrast.

I’ve bought curtains from this shop before https://www.tinsmiths.co.uk/ and they have a really good online selection and were very helpful. Don’t know if they have velvet but definitely have some colourful bold patterns. It’s so hard choosing curtains!!

Thankyou, Isaw these and they're really nice but not blackout. DH works nights and really needs the room to be dark, especially when summer rolls round.

You can buy blackout liner curtains. I always use these anyway- helps to keep the warmth in.

DownWhichOfLate · 21/02/2024 21:07

Yes, liners or blinds?

There's some lovely fabric but nothing jumping out at me.

It is really hard!

I’m looking as well. I’ve just been looking at linen ones too but they are not warm enough in winter. A lot of curtains are either floral or really dull colours.

Are you asking me?

Currently, I have liners and 'weave' them and the curtains when closing them to help with the warmth (I live quite far north). I think blackout blinds look smarter, though and plan to get some one day.

Can I get opinions on which curtains go better with the paint and wallpaper please?

The dark red or pale pink?

A review says they are more of a dark pink which is perfect but I have 2 windows in the room so need a 229x229cm pair and a 117 x 229 pair and they don't do both :(

Can you not buy the narrowest pair in the right length, and either have a longer pole, or take on pair to a sewing expert to make them narrower?
Too big isnt an issue. Too small is!

I prefer the pale pink with the olive green.

The narrowest pair in 229 drop is 168 wide
The window is only 65cm wide.

I have a huge window and a tiny one 😂

I ordered these and they just came and are awful.

They're like scuba diving suit fabric and the pink is much brighter/barbie pink

😭😭😭 This is the 2nd pair I've had to send back.

John lewis and dunelm have a large range you can look at in the shop, and make to measure but you'd need to be sure before you did that obviously.

Order some free samples from Just Fabrics (or similar). Hold them up against the wall to get a feel for the best combination. I don't think you can ever tell with fabric unless it is in person.

You can order machine made (or hand made if you are feeling more flush!) curtains that would fit your windows. Also do blackout or thermal lining.

We used curtains 2go online. They have a huge range of fabrics and make the curtains to measure, you can opt for different headings, blackout linings etc. They send out free fabric swatches so you don't have any nasty surprises with colours or patterns. We spent ages with various fabrics taped to the windows, gradually whittling down until we ended up with our final decision. That was 3 years ago and we're still pleased with our choice.

They're just too expensive to have made.

I've a budget for the home room and it only stretches to ready made.

There's some in dunelm I hold hope for (the ugh they're eyelet rather than pleased so I might have to do some sewing)
