Itchy legs - help!

I’ve had incredibly itchy lower legs for a week now. They keep me awake at night. They’re not dry. On Monday in desperation I saw a pharmacist and am now taking antihistamine and using Eurax. The pill helps and I’m mainly ok during the day now At this time of night the antihistamine is wearing off and I start getting itchy again. They have little red dots all over them . I was awake again last night with it.

I’ve never had anything like this. No change in products and I use surcare washing powder anyway as dd needs it.

Is it definitely an allergic reaction if the antihistamine works? Should I see a Gp? Googling is not good for me ! I’m terrified it’s never going to stop! What on earth is happening ?

@FizzyStream fexofenadine is unrestricted now. I have it on automatic delivery on Amazon.

OP most of my itching is lower leg, but it has progressed slightly to be scalp occasionally which really keeps me awake....

Tbh absolutely any moisturiser applied liberally helps but twice a day seems to have almost cracked it.

It could be scabies, it's much worse at night.

You know temporarily you can take another anti histamine?

So one in the morning, one at night.

Yes I’ve got piriton and the pharmacist said I shouldn’t ideally but I can take at night. It is okish if just slather in Eurax though, unfortunately I have to wake up to do it !

Itchy or jumpy?
Could it be a magnesium deficiency?
Try a magnesium oil to rub on your legs at bedtime?

Franticbutterfly · 21/02/2024 21:19

Was about to come on and say magnesium.

I had a really bad bug bite ages ago. Proper severe reaction. I was on loritadine 6 tablets 6 times a day so ummm 36? A day only for two weeks mind, but really dont worry about taking another anti histamine.

Countrylife2002 · 21/02/2024 21:26

@Winnading woah that’s a lot of tablets. That’s the AH I’m on. Maybe I will take it slightly more frequently than 24 hours then if I’m desperate in the night thanks.
I am thinking maybe a random bug bite as well as I do walk in long grass even though my legs are covered.

There is an Aveeno cream specially for itchy dry skin, it has a dark blue band on the pack. I found it great when I get very itchy legs from annoying varicose veins.

I can't take antihistamines so am restricted. If it gets really bad I put cooling ice gel or Aloe Vera gel on when the Aveeno wears off. I smell like a medical centre but I find it works!

Also the magnesium oil spray is good too, but I never remember to buy it, H+B have a good one.

Speak to your GP. It might be your liver

Oh poor you it’s not fun! Do you know why?

I am relieved the antihistamines work. I’m going to try and have to shift to taking them later in the day I think, but by 6am I’m desperate and just take one as soon as I get up!

@Countrylife2002 I have been back and forward to the doctors for years with this. I also have an itchy back and torso. Alternating two antihistamines helps,
Aveeno cream (blue) helps a little or doesn’t make it worse, keeping myself cool, I wear light natural fibered clothing. I don’t have hot showers and avoid extreme temps. I am menopausal, under active thyroid, anaemic and my liver has been investigated.

I just have to manage with it.

I have this but it’s arms and legs. Does anyone else have arms too or only legs?
